Question regarding sound (on computer, not in general :P )

Post by Goobronicus »

So, I have a USB Headset that I use for playing games, both to contain noise and so that I can speak on Ventrilo. Problem I seem to be having is that if I open FireFox with the headset plugged in, but don't want to use the headset anymore, I can't just unplug the headset and listen to vids etc, because when I unplug my headset, I don't hear anything. I have to close all my current pages, and then enter them again without the headset plugged in to get sound again.

Reversing the order (starting no headset, and then plugging it in) has no problems and I can hear things immediately. Anyone know why, or a way so that I can make it work the way it does when I plug in my headset?

If I wasn't clear, let me know, I'll post up a better explanation. In a hurry atm though. Thanks for any replies that are at least trying to be helpful ;)

Im not sure what it is, though on my pc i have a program that basicly regulates it, if i use a mic/headset/what kinda speaker set etc.
So after i used my headset, i unplug it and that program automaticly starts, ill set it to 2:1 speaker set and it'dd be all cool again.
Dont know if you have such a program though ...

Currently running XP Professional, on my still fully functional, quite nice widescreen laptop (circa 2006). I'm hoping for something not as major xD

Can you explain what you're trying to say? PTT is only in Ventrilo. My problem is not occurring in ventrilo, since if I had my headset in I am able to hear sounds. If you mean something other than PTT can you expand upon it.

I'll look into what my comp is able to do. I didn't have this problem a while ago, just within the last few months. It didn't start to bother me until a bit ago >.<

Thanks for the replies thus far! Keep em coming if you know of anything else.

I don't really how you could solve it, maybe no usb-set but i think it is quite a waste to buy something new for just this little problem

Btw, your lucky to have this on a laptop, the usb ports are better accessible than on a desktop :(

Well, the only thing on my tray that relates to USB plugin's in the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon. Double clicking that only shows my printer and a Mass Storage Device (Which ironically is part of the printer as well) :/ Don't know why it doesn't display under there or as it's own icon.

Yeah, I thought about that too. I used to just have a direct plug in (non usb) headset, but it just stopped working from normal wear. I can deal with it till this breaks down I guess, and then buy a non usb one :)

And yeah, I like that USB's are easy on laptop. I would hate to have it on some desktops :|
