Did I just have some good luck or some serious bad luck?

So last night, I got robbed. I live with 4 roomates including myself and my gf. One was out, one was asleep/wasted, me and my gf were in the shower. In the 15 mins of our shower, someone had climbed up our 3rd story apt through the patio deck, gotten in, and made off with our tv.

Now the scary thing is that they were well aware there were ppl home since 2 were showering and 1 was asleep. The lights in the rooms were cearly on. If they had come in a few mins earlier or later, they would've met me or my gf as we were getting snacks. The lights in the apt had been on for hours already at this happened in the early morning hours. They were fully aware they were entering a place with ppl still living there, even though this is move-out week for many.

The question is as I'm contemplating past events, did we all luck out that we didn't meet them, or were they lucky to not have met anyone? They knew what they were doing, so either they were armed or just smooth enough to know how to time it. I did an examination of the adjacent apartments and it also looked like all of us got broken into as doors were split open or bent backwards. So I'm pretty sure they at least had some kind of crowbar to bend the patio doors. With the speed and number of apartments broken into last night, I'd have to guess there had to be a small group of them, not just a 1 or 2 men thug team.

As to the luck question. I would rather confront them if anything. Now that is always dangerous if they were armed, but they might have been shocked that they would not know what to do.

One part of me wished I did see them to beat the shit out of them. The other part of me though realizes that it was a very bad situation considering it was 2 women and 1 man vs 1+ thief that was probably armed considering he was willing to rob a place that had ppl living and talking inside of it.

But erm, i would say bad luck.. but it could've been worse. You'll never know whether it was good or bad that you didn't encounter them. So you might aswell just believe that you were lucky.

I'd say both.

On one hand your lucky there wasn't a confrontation, and you were showering with gf lol. On the other someone broke into your place knowing your there, and not stopping when finding out your awake, and you lost a TV lol.

I'd be really pissed though >.>, you need some locked windows and doors and gun lol, and go get some signs from some security company and stick em around lol. I'd be wanting to shoot them if it was me >.>, someone comes into your home, especially when you or your gf is there, thats not a good thought.

Maybe you should get a dog ;d, I have a couple dogs, the slightest noise outside even makes em bark(when its late and quiet around anyway) lol, there's like no chance someone could enter without knowing.

They knew you were there and they choose not to make their presence known to you, what would've happened had you encountered them is up to chance. That's life though, luck has nothing to do with it, shit just happens....

36in flat screen insignia. Problem is, it's a very common tv for the apartments around here since it's a college city. So odds are we'll never find it. Good news though, apt said they won't charge us. ^_^. Only thing left is that whole someone actually got in and out thing...

Thats a very ignorant mindset. Here in America, you dont have the right to shoot someone without justification (you or another's life is in danger). Its against the law to just pick up your firearm and blow someone's brains out just because you see them dashing off with your TV, GF, whatever. Thats terrible advice. And in all cases, when both sides (the perpetrator and the victim) are armed, the probability of the situation becoming more lethal not only for yourself and the other increases, but for possibly other innocent bystanders as well. Its a fact of life - guns coupled with weak gun laws have given this country one of the highest homicide-by-firearm deaths among all developed nations.

If someone is robbing you, and he is armed, give it up. Everything he asks for. Your life is more valuable than anything you own. Trying to fight back isn't gallant or heroic, and when you wind up as a corpse, it doesnt impress the girls one bit.
