thats the life of a competitive athlete. There's millions of students studying right now to get college spots and only the best will get the best ones. Its the same thing just a different arena.

Sure, of course theres millions of students studying for a college acceptance but theres also hundreds of colleges and thousands of spots in each of those colleges. Theres only one gold medal. Its a good analogy, but its still not comparable. Everyone knows that its far, FAR easier to get into a good college just by studying (not even) 3-4 years of your life without breaking your back training. And college acceptance is at only, at maximum, a national competition - olympic level sports are on a totally different scope. You're facing some of the world's best and finest athletes and really, unless you were born with the talent, its hard to imagine yourself winning anything. Its also much cheaper - paying for college is nothing compared to paying for the training that goes into molding an international athlete.
