Practicing pull ups

Post by Mr.Ganji »

So lately Ive been trying to save some money by working out at home and Ive got pretty much every equipment I need to work out except a pull up bar. I looked up online and one of the things I can find is this

Image

to help with my pullups. I want to get one but parents keep insisting it will utterly destroy the door frames. Is this true? Does anyone else have a way they practice pullups?

idk, i use hang on my door and do it

my door is pretty solid, empty frame ones wont do it, and you gotta have 3 hinges holding onto the door

by using my door, my forearms are pinned to the door hence providing a greater workout to my back

I have a pull up bar I bought from Wal-mart that you put in between your door frames. It works fine for me. The door frames are also fine.

Another option is to find some studs in the wall and hang it there.

Idk, i use the perfect pull up thing ( looks like that, but has something extra ) that you just put on the door frame, dont have to drill or anything, it just places on. It dosent do anything to the door frame, or at least for mine

I wouldn't take that one, unless you don't have a lot of money to spend. I would go for a 2nd hand powerrack, unless you already have it.
Or take this one; http://www.rumblestore.nl/productgroup/113&path=60|113

EDIT: looks like you would bump your head in the wall xD

He probaly knows since he's asking how to do it at home....
You gotta place your hands further away from eachother if you want to train your back with this excersize tho'..

if your door-frame is well built, that little contraption shouldn't even cause a dent.

I dunno. Seems to be that everyone here either has one and is using it without problems or is complaining about that guy's back hair. My parents are still unrelenting though. I showed them pictures and even some of ur testimonies but they still think the house is built on straws :(

i think i got this one from wally world http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4564433&sourceid=24155742850239232401

it screws in and you can always take out the bar from the bases it's attached to. i've gotten some of my friends that are 200+ pounds to hang on it. wooden door frames are pretty strong...
