I predicted this a long time ago while talking with my guildmates. Ocean has made it no secret that the donations would go mostly towards server upkeep and possibly purchasing an applicable update to our version of the game that would give us new skills.

My prediction was basically this: "If any other private server figures out how to get the new skills, Ocean will buy the update from them."

Face it. He's a business man and he knows a good investment. Taking the money he made from his users allowed him to make another investment; an update. Instead of losing players to private servers with a newer version of the game, I assume he went out and bought the files to allow ecSRO to have capped skills.

This is why I never left ecSRO. I've never once talked shit about Ocean, because if you talk to him, you'd realize he's not as stupid as one would believe.

He's not? How so? Let's look at the basic facts (general knowledge):

1.) He hosts/rents the ecSRO servers. This costs money, regardless if he owns them outright or rents them from a server company. This is an investment.

2.) He successfully purchased the leaked SRO files (I assume from early kSRO). This is an investment.

3.) He opened his server, and opened donation website which users could donate for in game perks. This is return.

4.) Judging by the number of players, the number of servers, and the quality of the game continuing to rise, one could assume that he's pulling in a lot of cash. When the income exceeds the expense, this is profit.

5.) He is now taking profit and setting it towards another big investment that will keep players on his server. And possibly even sway players from other servers. Every business does this, be it with advertising, new products, or refined old products.


I don't care if you like Ocean, or if you hate him. He's clearly not a complete dumbass and has made a simple business model work to his advantage.
