Fan Problem

Post by Kraq »

Recently, my computer has been overheating very fast. After about 5 minutes it turns off automatically. I have a household fan on it to keep it cool, but it isn't enough.
It idles at around 90 Celsius, until about 10 minutes ago it idled at 120 Celsius.

I got SpeedFan and saw my fans weren't on.

They are connected correctly and Precision says they are off also.

What do I do? :(

??? 120C, what core do you have!? the fail-safe is 100c then it shuts down automatically.

open your case and with one finger try very lightly to move your heatsink, if it's moving more then say hlf a cm then turn off your computer, unplug, and remount the fan. if that doesn't fix it well, i guess you need a new fan also.

EDIT: i also have speedfan but i dont a "CPU" displayed on mine, just the 2 cores.

AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3700+

For me it turns off at 140c

With 1 finger it takes a bit of strength, it stays put.

Nope not moving, and yeah there is thermal paste.
I refilled it like 3 days ago.

Thanks for the help, the problem seems to have gotten better. Idles at around 70C during the day and it doesn't over heat while playing a game.
