is it safe to place metal objects near windows
TV antennas, futons, lamps, etc! Will they be struck by lightning if I put them near a window?

Chance are 1 of a 10,000 to get hit by a lightening ;0 or maybe less... so basically, it's dangerous.
I don't know lol, but it's obvious that metal things attract lightening unless you have that metal thing on your roof.

Re: is it safe to place metal objects near windows
um well my screen door has metal on it and there is a power pole outside. I think lightning would be more likely to hit those than my furniture...

Re: is it safe to place metal objects near windows
My mom's friend got killed by lightening when she was a little girl. She was standing near a window while it was lightening outside and it went through the glass and killed her. So much for that whole power line outside.

Oh dude...
How... should i explain this.
learn about physic...
http://science.howstuffworks.com/lightning.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning
Also - and this is serious - dont put any metal stuff near to you which is sphere shaped... and right now i am serious.
Lightning goes wehere the strongest possible electric field exists and a metallic spheres electric field is the stongest possible.
This is why in a big stadion(american football) mostly players get hit by ligthning and not bystanders(because of their helmets).
Also the best anti lightning equipment possible is a lightning rod with metallic sphere at the top.
Let me show you something:
"It is commonly believed, erronously, that a rod ending in a sharp point at the peak is the best means to conduct the current of a lightning strike to the ground. According to field research, a rod with a rounded or spherical end is better. A lightning rod is connected via a low- resistance cable to the earth or water below, where the charge may be safely dissipated. Lightning rods sometimes posses a short circuit to the ground that is interrupted by a thin non conductor over which lightning jumps. Ideally, the underground part of the assembly should reside in a muddy area, or an area that tends to become so during storms. If the underground cable will resist corrosion well, it may be covered in salt to improve its electrical connection with the ground. "

this is silly lol.. heard of it, but never seen or heard about it happening
instead, I heard about mirrors placed near windows attracting lightnings. I have a huge mirror right to my window and I'm alive lol. So it's all bs

Re: is it safe to place metal objects near windows
jeez, what's the big deal with lightning storms? i lived in china, britain, and right now in the U.S. and no where have I experienced more paranoia and "g2g, lightning storm" than in the U.S.
what's up with that?

Glass is very weak insulator so the thicknes of glass doesn't really matter.

I'm sorry. I'll take my words back. Window glass is insulator and does effect on the power of lighning. Though it doesn't reduce the power enough to make it harmless. Since windows are only few millimetres thick.

i thought glass was better then rubber for insulating electricity? anyways nothing can stop lightning as of now.

house windows are generally 3Mm thick thermal units so 3MM+airspace of like 1/4 inch and 3MM on outside but older houses probably usually have like 5-6 mil single panes in them. while office buildings and the like schools and such are glazed with 6mm on 6mm 1 inch overall. i didn't lightning could go through glass though.
I die every Monday at 7am and reborn Friday at 4pm

Just dont put anything near the window you think might be hazardous. Then you wont have to spend time worrying about whether its lightning-absorbing or not.
