Thieving - Immoral?
I'm probably going to get flamed with thieves here defending their job, but I'll go ahead anyway. Imo, thieving on SRO is wrong. I don't see the difference between robbing a trade and scamming someone, only that thieving is allowed. Both scamming and thieving involve taking gold from another person for yourself, just one difference, thieving is part of the game therefore is not frowned upon. The thing that stops me from going around scamming people is the fact that I would feel sorry for them, taking away what they earned because of personal greed. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.
On the other hand, I completly understand that without thieves, there wouldn't be a job system so it is essential that there are thieves.
My question to the thieves here is, don't you feel bad when you rob a 3* level 30 trader whos just starting to learn the basics of the game, trading with his last few mill of gold, just trying to have fun? Put yourself in their shoes, would you like it if someone 3 times your level came and 1 nuked you and your trans, and stole all your loot? I appreciate that these bigger 5* trades with a lvl 80+ trader and 7 hunters protecting it is a different story, they will probably have money to loose. Anyway I just want opinions, do thieves on SRO lack empathy?

Re: Thieving - Immoral?
Trading is optional; traders make the decision to risk making alot of money, knowing they could lose it. A person who is just starting shouldn't do more than a 1 star, that's a mistake on their part.

The most trades are 1*, or 5* with 7 sun hunters.

This.
+ the fact that it's historical correct, it's what ppl did at that time. It's based on that principal
and if u could just trade without risks.. it wouldn't be that cool anymore
Re: Thieving - Immoral?

i hav to admit there are a lot of high levels that will scatter at the sight of another high level. or like invisi thiefs who will attempt to 1 hit then get on a horse asap. but yea thats the only fall back. i like the system however there are about 70% thiefs 20% traders 10% hunters

You would take 2k Euro to a casino and gamble it all at once but when you lose you will call the casino lame?

lol I don't gamble. ever.
And when I take a 2*, I don't really depend on luck and chances. I do my work, I EARN the money.
sorry if you were level 26 and on ur own you must have been relying on luck or that was stupid lol

Re: Thieving - Immoral?
when i go thieving if i see some person even a degree lower then me i wont attack them. but if i'm helping friends and that then i will but thats the only time i would kill a lower level. or they start attacking me o.0 (dont get why but some times they do)
sure its part of the game but honestly what do you get from killing a level 50 person at 80? then again i see it as more of a pvp opportunity.

Re: Thieving - Immoral?
There's a flaw in this argument that is too big to ignore.
Personal greed is what drives people to become traders, lol. The job of a trader is, essentially, to get more for less. You don't trade goods from one town to another out of the goodness of your heart. You trade as a way to increase your gold. To say that personal greed is what drives people to become thieves in inaccurate. Seriously, the reward thieves get from trade goods isn't that great, lol.
Personally, I didn't take the thief job to steal loot and get rich. I just like killing traders and hunters. =) Still, I don't hesitate to pop a level 20 trader with a 4* caravan (again, I don't steal their goods). It teaches them that it's not safe for low levels to do multi-star trades alone. So in a way, I'm doing them a favor! I'm too kind for my own good.

Thats where I stopped reading your post. You obviously don't understand theme of the game. Its called triangular conflict. You're complaining like a person that thinks caging animals in a zoo is wrong while u stand in line waiting to purchase a ticket to see said animals.

I have been a Thief and a Trader, this triangular conflict is kinda what makes this game interesting and challenging, however sometimes it's unfair, but it's fun in the end.

Re: Thieving - Immoral?
Only bad side i see in thieving when ppl decide to be total assholes and rob someone 50 lvls under them. I was 41 doing my first trade past lvl 40. I made it all the way to right outside const. I had killed a lvl 52 rogue thief along the way and thought i was really lucky. He stands there waiting for me, but he doesn't dare attack me. He follows me up to the edge of the city where his 10d buddy stands there and 1 lion shouts me. Than laugh, spam noob, and walks around until i teleport back. I really wish they would implement a lvl restriction. I dunno about other people, but I personally find it boring even when pvping ppl 1 deg lower than me. Hell, I get bored pvping first tier ppl when i'm in third tier. It's so stupid when someone dies in 1-2 skills.
IMO, it is never a PvP when you can 1-hit your opponent or be 1-hit.

Well first of all, there's barely any job activity on most servers these days let alone THIEVES.
Secondly, it's the way the system works.
Would it be FAIR if traders could just go from town to town gaining money?
I havent played SRO in a while, but wasnt there the level 40 invulnerability?

No matter how much you think you love somebody, you'll step back when the pool of their blood edges up too close.

Yeah, I could say trading is immoral, the are trying to get a lot of money from just delivering goods, farking greedy IMO.

Re: Thieving - Immoral?
I think thieving is just part of the game. I guess thieves could police themselves a bit and not constantly 1-hit and rob traders 70 levels below them, give them a chance sometimes. That 1-hitting thief can also serve to show low level traders that they can't just ride their transport from city to city and use transport recovery kits to ignore NPC thieves until they get to their destination.
When I used to trade, I didn't really like being robbed, but I didn't let it bother me, regardless of the thief's level. It's part of the game. When I was a thief, I usually left low levels alone, or I'd rob them anyway, and find them later in town and give at least some of their money back.

Re: Thieving - Immoral?
I laughed my ass off when I opened this thread.
Do you seriously get sensitive and protective over a video game?
OH ITS IMMOROAL! T_T
No it creates a triangular system, its historical, and the traders know what their risking.
Not to mention (for the second time) its a video game.

It's part of what makes the triangular system fun.
The risk of being robbed makes it more fun.
It doesn't matter if it's a 10D Sun wiz that 1 nukes a lvl 20 2* trade. Really, do you think that during the era that SRO is supposed to represent; a pack of thieves would spare a group of poor traders just because they were poor/weak?

Re: Thieving - Immoral?
Thieving in SRO is about as "immoral" as stealing a basketball from an opposing player during a basketball game. It's about as immoral as slamming into a wide receiver hard enough to make him fumble the football so your teammate can pick it up. It's about as immoral as catching a flyball out in deep left field that a rookie got lucky enough to hit all the way out there.
