Converting mp4 to avi?

Are there any free programs that I could use to convert .mp4 files to .avi? Ones that fully convert the video, not just 30% with the free trial thing lol

I want to edit some videos in Windows Movie Maker, and it wont accept mp4 files to edit. So any help would be awesome thanks

I did try google, unless i over looked it. everyone i checked was a "try free trial and it converts 40% of your video". so figured maybe people had ones they used.
