5 per party although raids 40 people max over 8groups, basically 8normal partys linked together

Unlike SRO and the general workings of a Euro party, in WoW you can easily break down the system to its bare bones: tank, heal, dps. But even though you can do that, it's still far more complex than what SRO has to offer - mainly due to the environment.

in sro you had magic and physical mobs in wow they are more varied in abilitys, the level via a party isnt kill as much as you can more assit each other in doing quests is far faster, in a dugeon situation you need 1tank,1healer 3dps for a bog standard 5man each knowing what roll to play. in a raid situation you need 2tanks then 2/3healers for 10man and 5-7healers 25man raids (current end game format) which the rest filling dps again here each needs to know what to do and have the right gear for it

the game in general can be as simple or complex as you want it to be but you need to enter some complexity to achieve anything in end game

Questing is the fastest by far. You can solo quest up to 80, and people can do this in 3 weeks. There is almost zero grinding in the game. You hardly kill mobs for their XP alone. You kill them because of quests.

Gathering professions are always good. Personally, I find mining to be very helpful. Try to get professions that complement each other. If you take mining, you can take jewelcrafting or blacksmithing. It's also good to take crafting professions that are helpful to your class. If you're a rogue, you can take leatherworking to make your equipment.

You can also take two gathering professions. At low levels this could give you large amounts of income.

I highly recommend two gathering professions for your first character, purely for the income. You can always go back and powerlevel a crafting profession if you so wish, and this way you'll always have steady income and generally never be short of cash when you need to make those large purchases. (like your riding skills!)

The item qualites goes like this: Legendary > Epic > Rare > Uncommon > Common > Poor

Fortunately (THANK GOD!), what you get is what you use. All you can do to equipments is just adding an enchant to it or socket a gem should there is a slot for it, which by the way, is available for everyone. There's no bullshit luck-related weapon enhancing system where you have to pay $1000 to get +9000 weapon crap.

I would also like to add, like Priam said before long time ago, best stuff in this game can't be bought with money since the good items binds ind on pickup (BoP).

All items in the game are on a system of quality.
Grey - Poor
White - Common
Green - Uncommon
Blue - Rare
Gold - Heirloom
Purple - Epic
Orange - Legendary
[Red - Artifact]

You'll start out with white items and progressively replace them with greens. Majority of the time as you're leveling, you'll be wearing green items with a few blues here and there. Generally, you start focusing on getting purple (epic) items once you cap. Orange items are extremely rare and there's no set of orange items. There's at least 10 so far: http://www.wowwiki.com/Legendary_items

Heirlooms (gold) can be bought from NPCs and they are bind to account. They are usually the same quality as blues/purples.

Artifacts are not implemented yet.

I keep switching professions.
I started with mining/JC, then switched to herbing/alchemy. Now I'm at tailoring/enchanting and I'm going to stick with this one for a while.

The great thing is that it's fairly cheap to lvl those.
Cloth drops from humanoids. You buy thread/dyes from the npc and craft greens. Later on you disenchant the greens and use the mats from it to lvl up enchanting and all I need to do is kill the mobs while questing thus no need to run around looking for herbs or nodes.

Enchanting is gonna drain you up in the higher levels (300 onwards). DEing greens, blues or quest rewards from 60 onwards will cripple your income.

Ninja edit: Actually no, because once you get into Northrend you'll start getting shards needed for level 80 enchants and they should earn you quite a bit.

But if I sell quest/mob drops and only DE my tailor junk I'll lose less, because I only spend money on threads and dyes. Surely I'm not making money, I was talking about not spending a lot on a craft.

Well I know for a fact you barely had to get anything from the vendors to craft and level Blacksmithing, all you need is the patience to farm ores. I don't think you would be spending a lot on vendors for crafting professions, since most of the materials come from gathering professions. They are only expensive when you don't have the specific gathering professions for it, hence buying them off AH.

The fun thing about tailoring is that everyone has the needed gathering profession, there's no need to use the 2nd slot for gathering.
Kill humanoids and get cloth.

No need to farm ores/herbs.
If you have a nice high lvl friend. Ask them to run an instance with you for cloth. I got someone boost me through the 4 wings of SM and I got a shitload of silk cloth (he gave me quite a bit of his cloth drops as well) and quite a few greens/blues to DE coupled with 3-4 items that my mage could use.

Is there a good Addon for gathering professions, such as mining? I have a lot of trouble leveling up mining since it's so sloooow (1 level = 1 Vein)!

Yes, but look at my sig lol. I'm still deciding what professions would give me the best benefits for arenas, don't mind about earning gold lol. Tailoring benefits would be a haste proc enchant as far as I can remember, not very useful in PvP situations. Enchanting is a great profession but some dude in my guild is already leveling it and I find it to be a dreadfully expensive profession to level.

I use gathermate. It's filterable by profession, item, and a couple other things. Not sure about gatherer.

Enchanting gets rather costly at upper levels, even considering you break what you get. We had 3-4 people at a time giving all their greens (& most blues) to our enchanter and every BOP that no one in the instance needed. He still compained about never having enough mats/not leveling. Granted, he never had to pay for any of that stuff, and it took him a little longer to level because he didn't, but you probably will (unless your guildmates love you).
