Post by Bl4nk »

i was just thinking and i want to know why halo 1 was considered so amazing when it came out what made it speacal? because i remeber when i got it with my xbox when they first came out but i cant remeber why it was cutting edge, was it the graphics?(they were amazing, now....lol), fps or fps on console, multiplayer co-op story ?????

anyway so why was halo 1 speacial???

also dont mention halo 2 & 3, they are just improvements on it(big improvements good/bad)

Halo 1 wasn't that special, but the multiplayer was supposedly superb.

At least thats what people told me when I asked them why Halo 1 was that good.

for me:
great story. much deeper than any shooter will ever have.
The enemies lasted. Halo has very intelligent opponents. not only did they have alot of hp, but they were good at dodging and hiding. (although they never ducked away if you were trying to snipe them :P). + they had nice aim (well teh elites anyway...) the vehicles are nice. often you dont really get such freedom with vehicle use. and the game even had some sneaking around in it (melee attacks in the back)
oh yeah and the weapons were amazing and unique. The colt was the best of all. all weapons were well balanced in power

I am not proud to say I never played any Halo.
Though I tried to install Halo 1 recently, it didn't work. :/

It was the multiplayer that made the Halo franchise legendary. It worked perfectly.

There was no co-op in halo 1 ;) (well maybe via internet but not on 1 xbox)

Several factors made it good including the already stated above co-op, multiplayer, story, graphics, but i think the biggest reason was that it was the one game that Microsoft threw all of its advertisement money into, it was a release title for the xbox if i am not mistaken, and was one of the only fps's for the console at release, that turned out to be fabulous. but imo all other halos blew balls in the story section >_>.

New type of fps, storyline, and multilayer. I bought halo for my pc and I played that shit a lot. Was worth $50.

However it went downhill after the first game is what I think. Halo 2.. It wasn't the same playing story as it was in the first game. MP was meh afterward, but still worth playing. Halo 3 is just.. yeah. I didn't like it.

everyone bunny hopped and used snipers and it took a ridiculous amount of time just to kill someone. I tried using the assault rifle on an afk enemy, it took an entire magazine and a half for him to die. no wonder

I was about to say that. Its multiplayer was good. However its story will never come close to games like halflife.

New story/set. It was new when the xbox came out too, which had amazing graphics compred to ps/n64.

I remember playing co-op with a friend, yelling like a girl for him to shoot the head crabs off me.

Because it was the first FPS pretty much that was great on a new age console.

Plus multiplayer was great.

That's called being bad at the game. Pistol was a three shot kill weapon. Assault rifle all you had to do was shoot them a bit then double melee and dead.

That was another thing about Halo 1. No auto aim really. No dumb lunge melees. Everything was balanced.

so pistol with scope>rifle? complete crap and guess what happens? Every single round ends up with a pro or two flying around on the banshee killing everybody while the entire team bunny hops up and down on the farthest sides of the maps using pistol scopes and snipers trying to kill somebody. I only liked the singleplayer because of the storyline and the AI wasnt dumb like other fps

Halo 1 was the least balanced of the series. You start with the pistol so there was no reason to use any other weapon. Unless you were all the way on the other side of the map out of pistol sniping range, the weapon of choice was the pistol.

how exactly is that being the least balanced of the three games? think about it. everyone spawns with a deadly weapon if you could use it correctly. the average player was lucky to get a 3SK. the sniper was better at range, the shotgun up close, the rockets.. enough said. double melee made any weapon like the AR good up close too. basically, you just had to know what you were doing.

of course, nobody's going to sit there and drop the pistol, unless they're a fool. but that's balance. everyone has a weapon that takes skill and is capable of pulling off kills on power weapons if skilled enough.

unlike halo 2/3 where you (in matchmaking at least) spawn with the SMG or AR. the team with the advantage on the opening rush, unless failures, grab some battle rifles/snipers/rockets/anything and rape you off of spawn as you make futile attempts to grab a weapon worth a damn.

..and halo 1 was the least balanced? lol.

I'm going to assume you were playing against bad players. Sure everyone starts with the weapon but that doesn't make the weapon balancing not bad.

The sniper was only better on large maps such as blood gulch.

You have radar. No one should even get close enough to you to use the shotgun effectively. Besides, you can easily get off 3 pistol shots to the head before they can fire a 2nd shot to the head. Unless it's point blank range, they aren't one shotting you with the shotgun.

If they're close enough to shoot a rocket at you effectively, you can take them out with the pistol.

If you knew what you were doing, there was no reason to switch to any other weapon other than the sniper rifle. It takes about 2 seconds to put 3 bullets in the head of someone so most people are dead before they even realized what happened.

The people in Halo aren't moving real fast or anything. From mid-range to short range, many players should be able to land a few bullets to the head with the pistol. The scope makes it even easier.

I never played Halo 2 or 3 on live but I'm pretty sure that situation you described soley depends on the map. Either way, plasma pistol+pistol handles most situations in Halo 2. Not to mention that you have grenades. I haven't played much of Halo 3 but spawn killing was just as much a problem in Halo 1 depending on the map.

I didnt care so much since in most situations i can usually get out of it and most of the time it is very easy to.

Lol try an land those headshots on a skilled player who has played for some time and u will find its quite hard 2 get those 3 simple headshots. Although it is a fact that the pistol is prob the most overpowered and versatile weapon in halo 1.

Because you were playing with pros who tsk every time, right? No.

Seeing as how a Sniper is a..wait...long range weapon, it would make sense that it's used more on larger maps. What a concept.

Did you ever use the shotgun in Halo 1? It wasn't the piece of shit shotgun in Halo 2 or Halo 3. Halo 1 shotgun was deadly effective. Shot melee way more effective than a pistol.

Your rocket thing was completely dumb. If they're close enough to kill you with a rocket, you can pistol them? What? There was a reason the rocket was a power weapon. No one good would pass up a rocket just because they have a pistol.

"If you knew what you were doing." That's bullshit. Assault Rifle wasn't the weak piece of shit it is now. Plasma rifle had a stunning effect. Rockets, enough said. Shotgun was strong. Of course, I'm sure if everyone was as pro as you were at the game, always getting tsk's, why would they need any other weapon? Who were you in tournaments again? Wait...

Pretty sure I could land 3 headshots no matter what you're doing. The pistol's targeting reticule is so large that there isn't really much you can do in 2 seconds in the open that could cause me to miss.

.curve wrote:Because you were playing with pros who tsk every time, right? No.

Yup. About 60% of the time anyway.

.curve wrote:Did you ever use the shotgun in Halo 1? It wasn't the piece of shit shotgun in Halo 2 or Halo 3. Halo 1 shotgun was deadly effective. Shot melee way more effective than a pistol.
Like I said, you would never get close enough to me to use it effectively let alone melee me with it unless radars are off. Halo 1's shotgun is stronger only because it has a slightly farther range. I'm glad it was nerfed.

.curve wrote:Your rocket thing was completely dumb. If they're close enough to kill you with a rocket, you can pistol them? What? There was a reason the rocket was a power weapon. No one good would pass up a rocket just because they have a pistol.

I would depending on the map and the number of players I'm playing with.

The people I usually played with were something like this guy in terms of accuracy.

Code: Select all

I went to a few tournaments in my state. The best players rarely switched to any other weapon besides the sniper. Also, don't overrate tournaments. Many of the best players I played didn't particpate in major tournaments. In some cases not even local tournaments.

Bad move. Get off my team then.

Oh wow. This just discredited everything. That is MONTAGE! What's the point of a montage? To show his best clips. Of course it's going to be full of tsk's. Why would he put anything else in there? God ignorance.

Local tournaments are nothing. Unless you were playing in the Halo 50k tournaments against teams like StK and with people like Dom1, Cyrax, Saiyan, Strangepurple, Clockwork, Walshy, KillerN, you had no real experience. Everyone I mentioned there doesn't even tsk every time. Watch any gameplay video for a real outlook on how Halo 1 was played.

Here you go. Saiyan. One of the top players in Halo 1.

I think anyone who can read knows its a montage. You missed my point.

I clearly said the people I usually played with were something like this guy in terms of accuracy. That's how easy it usually was to get a three shot kill with the pistol. Not all of his kills in the video with the pistol were 3 shot kills. His skills outside the video are irrelevant to the point I was making.

Furthermore, the video was only reinforcing some points I made earlier. Particularly this quote.

.curve wrote:Because you were playing with pros who tsk every time, right? No.

I guess I was wrong to assume you would be able to put A and B together.

Ignorance? I'll show you ignorance in your own post.

Ignorance. You have no idea about the skill level or the number of people I've played nor how many hours I've invested or my opponents have invested into Halo.

.curve wrote:Everyone I mentioned there doesn't even tsk every time.
I don't even know why that statement was even necessary if you read my post.

.curve wrote:Watch any gameplay video for a real outlook on how Halo 1 was played.

Spoiler!

Another. Ogre 1 and Ogre 2. Notice in the opening second...a rocket flies by him. Whoa! What a concept.
Spoiler!

Like I said before, many of the best players I played didn't particpate in major tournaments. In some cases not even local tournaments. Some didn't because of transportation issues while others simply because they didn't want too.

I don't see anything impressive about the 1st video.

2nd video just proves my point. The guy at the top just used the pistol and sniper rifle the whole time. Your rocket point is also irrelevant because I previously stated I may or may not use the rocket depending on the map and the number of people playing.

What, you think I'm just some casual gamer and played against many other casual gamers or something? lol

If you want to assume that my experience has no merit because I haven't participated in any major tournaments, go ahead. Ignornace is bliss after all.

The weapon balancing is still the worse in Halo 1.
