(Read this like a story and not a 'fuck, i got hacked' post - Makes it much nicer)

Well, i woke up early for some reason. Dont know why, i woke up and thought i needed to get up for something. The time was 5am. I took a shower and got something to eat, and logged onto WoW around 5.50am. "Hmm, thats funny, my password isnt working" i said to myself. I went to the WoW site and had my password reset, i then logged on to find my character without any visible modifications, but i also noticed a new char, with a 'gold site spammer name'.

I immidiately logged onto my character to find some nice person had leveled my Mining from 427 to 450. They had also wiped my guild bank, taken all my gold, amounting to around 4500, and had also been very busy farming Ore and mining materials, which weirdly were left on my account.

Furthermore, most of my Emblems were gone, and i also had 10 Honorable kills. "Okay, so i've been hacked" i thought, and immidiately started writing a GM Ticket, without reviewing all the possible missing items.

I pressed the start key and quickly opened Wordpad. I relized that i had no idea what was missing. I knew the slots that were empty, i know almost exactly how much gold i had, but i had no idea of the item names. "Does this make a difference - Surely blizzard keep logs of this sort of thing" i whispered to myself. I started writing a Story-like letter to Blizzard, best discribing what happened, what time i logged out last and what time i think the hacking took place. I couldnt remember the damn names of my missing items. Only two, because they were special too me. My first 80 Epic Titansteel Bonecrusher, and my 2 Handed sword from Zul'Farrak that i spent 3 hours farming for, Sul'thaze the Lasher.

I also remembered that i was still Guild Master, so i quickly logged onto my other account and gave guild leadership to my paladin. Also noticing that everything was Okay with that account.

I stood up and looked out the window, it was getting light and there was a cat strolling down the street. I will always remember that cat, mainly because it's mine, but even still... It will be forever known as 'The cat i saw on the day my World of Warcraft account was hacked'.

Having sat back down, and turned on the TV - the News was on, i continued to write to Blizzard in Wordpad. "As far as i can remember, nothing else has been taken" i wrote. I read over the letter, trying my hardest to remember the names of my missing items, but with no luck. I then decided to look through my screenshots as i normally screenshot new items and nice drops, but none of them were screenshotted.

Logging onto the Armory i relized it would of updated in the time since the hacking, so the items were not shown there. I had no options left - I could not provide the names of the stolen items to Blizzard, as they request on the GM Ticket interface. I wondered if i would be able to get my items back without such important information... Only time will tell.

With a flick of the mouse, i initiated a full System scan - A feature which i normally have disabled. Scanning, Scanning and Scanning some more, it found no threats. Wondering how my account information became available, i drew a blank. Nobody knows my info and i dont download anything. The chances of being keylogged are slim.

After getting all possible information from my Death Knight, i logged onto my Bank Alt to find her not wearing the Festival Dress i had made for her. The 70-ish gold and 250 Relics of Ulduar she had - gone. I felt genuine depression. Never before have i felt upset or depressed over a game, until now. The thought of somebody logging onto my account and basically stealing from me, makes me feel sick.

Never in a million years would i of guessed that i could be hacked. I have a strong username and an even stronger password. Now i am relying on Blizzard to come through for me and get my items back, especially that of the Guild Bank, which was not mine.

I hope none of you ever get hacked, because its not a plesent experience - And the amount of information Blizzard request from you... Well, its making my brain hurt.

I know what you mean when you talked about how you never got sad over a game before.

When my GW account with over 4 years of effort was hacked, I was genuinely upset aswell. It makes you feel insecure when you know some idiot has been looking through and taking your hard earned items. Most game companies wont re-roll or replace items unfortunately.

Gl with getting your stuff back though.

Lempi. There is hope.

My real life friend had pretty much the exact same thing happen to him.
His account was taken by gold sellers and all his money and important thing were gone.

However, he sent off his ticket to a GM and within a few emails, after proving that the account was his, he got all his gold and missing items back in a compensation letter from blizzard in game.

I think that so long as you can prove that its your account, Blizzard will recompensate your items and gold as they have their own logs for it.

Well its been a few hours since i submitted a ticket, but i know what blizzard are like when it comes to answering them. Only thing im concerned about is on their site it says i need my original WoW key or Photo ID, and i dont have either. I bought my account online, but i assume they would know that if they looked and the only Photo ID i have is a college pass card which expired 3 years ago

As long as you're the original owner of the account, you should be fine. If you bought off ebay or something you're farked, but otherwise you're fine.

Blizzard is a million times better than Joymax when it comes to hacked accounts, have hope. My irl friend had his warrior hacked back in classic and I think he got his stuff back (then he sold the account and quit, lol). Also a guildie got hacked in BC and got her stuff back after a few days.

Yeah Blizzards log system is amazing. They can track anything thats happened to your account.

So just have some patience and you should get your goods back soon

Thats the good thing about having 2 accounts, as Blizzard has locked the account my DK is on while they 'continue their investigation'. Just need to sit tight and wait now, and get to Northrend on my hunter.

although they ask for a lot of information 9/10 blizzard come though i mean you are on this forum therefore played silkroad you compare the both joymax will never come though, i know that first hand and second hand seeing as iv had a char hacked and a char banned.

Blizzard respect their customers as far as iv been and know of a few people in my guild who got hacked lost everything and managed to get it all back

Around 24hours after it happened i have everything back, so massive <3 to Blizzard for that.

Lol yes it was real. Tried to make it readable and not a complaining thread. Everything i wrote was true, even down to the Cat.

If anybody wants to see what i got back, i had 3 pages of Mails all from Blizzard each containing 12 items, 2 containing gold.

Second thoughts, i wont link everything cos i dont have 2 hours to spend taking screenshots lol.

Well im pretty dissapointed atm. For some reason they recovered everything from my bank that was taken, except the 2 items i wanted back the most; Titansteel Bonecrusher and Sul'thaze the Lasher. They said there was no evidence that i had the items at the time i was hacked :banghead:

Now all i have left are the memories...

(that was kinda gay)

I got my fair piece of this bullshit as well, but I have been inactive for the past week or two so it shouldn't be hard to recover my stuff, I hope.

Yeah they should get it back to you as long as you can get a rough time of when you were last online and what is missing. All i had was an email telling me to change my password and scan for keyloggers ect and then the next morning i had my things back.

So many people are getting hacked these days. My mate was hacked last month and Blizz couldnt get his things back because he didnt make the account, his friend paid for it and gave him it.

I've traded a lot of my accounts around and if things went wrong I could always rely on blizzard to fix everything.

@Lempi: Problem is I can't remember what I have, I have too many gears around and I have been inactive for 2 weeks, I will have to rely on them to check the log for it.

@ExSoldier: No, I was more active on my huntard before leaving the country.

Well I only retrieved the account and got it back with everything in tact.

A friend of mine wasn't so fortunate and he had to get the gears restored, it took two weeks of 'investigation' for they restored the gear. He didn't have to tell what was missing, I think it's very unlikely you have to as well.
If they didn't have records everyone would say they had 2x warglaives (ok well maybe not the most desired item any more, but still mega hard on weapon).

I think I got all my stuff back, 3000g checked, ran all my different sets in Outfitter and there was no error, looks like all was reimbursed.
