New Graphics Card
For a while iv been thinking about getting a new graphics card and stuck for ideas what to get, atm iv got a Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT 1gb which is fine can stil handle high end games but it seems i have to push it to get what i want from it and dnt always get it either so looking around i come across this Nvidia GTX295 1792MB but not a cheap card so before i shuffle my accounts around and do 1/2 days over time to be able to get this for next payday i want to get others opinions, yes i know about the 9000 series cards and yes they are good but im looking for more serious proformance.

Re: New Graphics Card
That's one of (if not the) best card out there for gaming. You'll need a very nice PSU to run that, but like fox said it's overkill if you're not running on 1900x1200 playing games like crysis, farcry2, etc. I have the 285 (single core, 295 has 2 GPU's) and I can run just about anything maxed out on my 22". My card is also 200~ $ cheaper depending where you buy but that's based off Canadian sellers.
I'd go for a slightly cheaper card.
You're also going to need one hell of a CPU to keep that thing from bottle necking, even though at extreme gaming it's inevitable.

Re: New Graphics Card
i got 22" and try and run most games in highest res not always possible aka crysis which no matter what people say is fun online xD
il look at the 285. but as with all computer things get outdated quick i didnt choose a medium grade card cus within the year it will be outdated so high end is where i was looking
good psu wont cost me more then £100 and this one should be able to handle it anyways.
im going to keep looking and if i find another card il post here to get oppinions iv got time before i buy it

overkill ftw lol ;]
but idk, i guess you should first know what you're
going to use it for, like what class games, etc.
because i also saw you working in 3d max some time
ago, perhaps you can find a card that's both fast
in gaming and strong enough to handle 3d software
as well?

Re: New Graphics Card
tbh for my 3d shit the 8800 hold enough power to do most shit in max unless im going for uber realism which i cant do yet no need to upgrade on that basis just this card feels a bit sloppy on when gaming at the level i prefer, on games like crysis and farcry
although looking at the gtx285 that may be enough for what i want although if i want a few months a new gfx card will come out making the gtx295 cheaper so i dont know. But within this year im gona upgrade my comp a few times to keep up with demand its stil a high end pc but dont look after it, it will soon be cheaper to buy a new one

Re: New Graphics Card
common knowledge in the market says to never buy multi-gpu cards since is just asking for all sorts of compatibility problems. if your mobo supports it buy a couple of gtx 260 core 216/275 and save yourself some money/hustle.

Re: New Graphics Card
How come everybody goes for evga, sparkle and club 3d nowadays? Those companies used to be shit 5 years ago(+-), are they any better now(I haven't been up to date with current stuff) or what? I usually buy nothing except gainward when it comes to graphic cards :s

Wow, Tesco must of increased their wages alot!
To be honest, you get what you pay for, and if you do get that card, its gunna last a while and still be able to play new games easily a few months, maybe even a year down the line.

tbh i look at my wages this way im a gamer, i do go out but EMA pays for that leaving easy £60-100 free per month at 1 day a week (including ema) not gona give you totals cus thats more personal shit but overtime can get enough for it.
And as for getting what i pay for thats the idea as i dont want to have to upgrade too soon, also going to look into getting a solid state drive as they are more reliable but il do that at a later date

ok Nvidia and ATI...tell me one other graphics card company that dont produce "shit"?
nower days those 2 produce the best cards on any number as aspects and dominate between them gaming and media uses. if you wish to turn this thread into a discussion about graphic card companys let me know now so i dont have to deal with the spamming issue and can just change the thread name.

Re: New Graphics Card
If I could find an old PCI-E 1.0 8800GT I'd upgrade right now. Everything's 2.0 now though and it pisses me off.

PCI E 2.0 cards are backwards compatible with 1.0 anyways so why does that piss u off?

it's not really "wasted" lool. Most if not all cards out today dont use even all the pci E 1.0 bandwidth, the pcie 2 is just there for assurance and for future cards that may need the extra bandwidth, none is wasted lol it's just not used so no performance diff currently. Plus pcie 2.0 can deliver more power through the slot to the card i think if i remember right
