Ok, i've been experiencing something called "Alchemy" the last week...
And i dont like it...

Since when is it normal that when you try to pimp your 94 blade, with 47 stones, that 41 of em fail, and the other 6 get your whites (4/6) down to 0%? oh, and i added 1 str and 18 blocking ratio...

But thats not all!
Had the same issue with my 90 shield a 2 weeks ago...
only thing there was I had 27 stones failing in a row.. yes, in a row, NONE worked.
i mean, am i the only one that just CAN'T pimp equipment or what the heeeelll??!!

I cant even +3 anything, all my stones fail or reset the stupid thing OR put the same exact stat on it. [Crit 3 is now..............[drumroll] crit 3!!!!]

because 99% of you do alchemy and rely on luck, but in fact, through experience, you'll learn how to make a it success or reduce the fail.
At least learn that random in any game is time based.

Timing randomness is used in nearly all games because easier on the game engine to manage without bogging everything down.

Don't believe it's timing based? Next time you're on a drop quest time the drop sequences of the quest. You will see you will get 1-2 drops and then go another few minutes before the next drop sequence. Wizards are extremely lucky in the drop scenario because they can nuke multiple targets and get quite a few drops in a sequence.

Try varying your timing on alchemy for better results. Consistency is key so use a 1,2,3 count or something and get consistent with say +3 before progressing to higher. The biggest issue with the counting is learning to psych yourself out and not get so excited about the possibility of a +5 that you flub the timing and have to start over. Same theory works for stones, yeah you may assimilate the hell out of stuff still but if your timing is good then you won't have as many failures.

Final note on this: There is a certain amount of "luck" built into an item, and as far as I can tell a character as well (hence one character +5s everything they touch, the other can't get +2 for his/her life. Even SOx drops or drops in general I believe are based differently on each character. Ever make a noob that got a hellacious amount of drops?). That being said, some believe you can "reset" the luck by using an elixer without luck powder till you get one that works. Or another theory is to let the item "cool down" in storage for a while. And the final theory is to trade the item with someone or let someone else try the item. All of these work to some degree, perhaps it's all in the users head or maybe there is something to it.

In closing, you will get on occasion a real bastard of an item that just won't do anything but cause grief. I rondo that shit and move on, unless of course it's a SoSun or other such rarity in which case I'll offload it and let someone else deal with it.

I seriously doubt there is any 'timing' or special way to do alchemy. The only thing you can do is hold yourself back from using that really cheap 30% stone when you know it has a high chance to screw over the 12 crit you just got on your glaive. Alchemy is about control. The ones with the +9s, 11, etc are the ones who are very lucky OR the ones with a lot of gold. Not to generalize, but there's no confusion as to why the kuwaits in greece have the suns and the +9s.

This is so true. I have okay luck w/ alchemy (good assimilations, nice blues) but have gotten two items above +3 (and that was w/ increased success on premium ticket, lol). I have pretty much summed it up that my main char is ultimately cursed in +++ items, which is probably why she gets a crazy amount of elixirs to drop. Do have 2 Sos drops to credit (I have another char that has almost a dozen sos/som drops at L45, is pretty lucky at getting normal drops, but sux at doing blues) It's an evil design I tell you, lol.

I usually try 3x to ++ an item, and even let decent pieces sit in storage for a while in between tries. They still fail, but can pass off to someone and presto! They make it +5. So now I have someone else that's luckier than me ++ my stuff

I do manage my blues pretty nicely though, so it works for me.

The alchemy success/luck thing is an interesting topic...iv tryed all sorts of things,some appare to work well sometimes...but fail continuosly other times.
One thing that i dont believe in though is "individual item luck"...iv had items fail to 5 with 100 elixirs....but the next day i use 5 and get +5 on that same item.

Its almost like there is a cycle that happens over the week where some parts of the days have a higher success than others...

One story that comes to mind was when i had been trying to go from 4-5 on two of my 9th degree sos robes,they just wouldnt go even with loads of luckys....later that week somebody globaled "omg joymax,cant beleive you just let me go +6 without lucky"
I teleported straight back to town,first robe went +5,the other failed 4-5 but then went straight to 5...so 6 elixirs with no lucky....i then decided to do two rings one went +4 first time and the other went +4 on the second attempt...

All just imo though,have fun blue/+++'ing.

I'm still figuring out the method for whites. Seems less obvious because I made a glaive with 80% phy, reinf and crit 12 using different time frames.

It's actually in the help guide too, concerning the luck value of certain items that is.

more so i belieive its more account based, one account my main hell i fail alot to just plus 3 things, never managed anything higher with only one exception.
Now my chinese nuker on a different account can consistently hit plus 4 on the same items Foudre gets fails at making plus 2

characters in the main account have equal luck to Foudre
characters on the account with my lowbie nuker seam to be equally as lucky

i useally just throw 10 stones at it if i get something good i keep going if everything fails and my stats go down i useally stop for a few hours or a day works the best for me

like a few days ago i made a +7 weap 94 was working on the stats didn't get anything outa 10 stones, next day i throw 1 stone at it 80% mag

spent 250 m on my xbow 94 and its well good

but i had 13 stones of courage failed in a row then the phy atk went to 22% and str had been assimiled from 6->1 well its hard.

Iv tried all sorts of timed things also .....though it would be effected by ping so if it did help would be a pain to keep constant.
Timed from the moment you drop the last item in the box.
Recording times that succeded seemed to give better results more often than not,though iv had some canny things happen....like i used all the usual times that seemed to work best and none worked...so the next day i spam 100 elixirs and get +0.....pull out my stopwatch in frustration "like its gunna help yeh whatever" use the same times and get +5....lol iv done it more times than i can remember...

Also about stones...from my few years doing this game it seems the higher the assim the more chance of getting a higher % blue or white,after using hundreds of stones on the +7 80/61/80 staff i finally gave in to the BR and used a 30%er,bam 100%...FFS lol so why didnt those last 40 x 0%,10% and 20% stones do jack.^^...ah well guess im unlucky as most will say but its a computer after all its only and random as the program it follows.
