Driver's License
So I'm almost 15 and can almost get my license. But is there really a point getting it so early? My mum said she'd buy me a car but well, I don't really need one that bad. But I was thinking of getting it anyway, just in case.

Re: Driver's License
Why wouldn't you get your license? If it is anything like it is here. Get it as early as you can. Having your open license is freedom. Even having your P plates is freedom.
My mum said she'd buy me a car when if I passed mine 100% and I did, on my first try. So take up your mothers offer.
+ You might actually be able to drive to your friends on weekends when you get your P's/Opens.

When I asked my mum and dad to buy me a car they laughed in my face.
They're very much the "we'll pay for essentials" parents.

Re: Driver's License
Be careful though or you'll end up like I did. Running errands when parents are too lazy to drive. Playing taxi for my sister because she can't drive and parents don't want to.
Speak the truth, even if your voice shakes.

Re: Driver's License
My parents never bought me a car. They put me through driver's ed. and I got my license around 18. I took the test with my mother's car and eventually bought my own after saving money working at a job my aunt drove me to.
Some people are more privileged. I remember moving to Sanford (a decent sized city in Maine) from the boondocks half-way through high school and most of my classmates had nice new sports cars of their own and credit cards and shit like that. I guess having one then would have been nice but my parents weren't the type to pay for my car and insurance and gas for me to get to school, I could just walk there and skip all the costs. And screw working during the summer just to drive a mile to school in a car I can hardly pay for on saved money.

The only reason i got a car was becuse it was the only way for my mom to keep her job.

In Australia you're allowed your Learners License at the age of 16. You then have them for 1 year, and must do 100+ hours of driving and have it written in your Log Book. You then have to undergo a test, to get your P's. After one year of Red P's you go on to 2 years of Green P's. After that you're allowed to go for your Open License (The license majority of people own).

I hate PT.. Last Friday I had to use it and I spend a total of 4 hours stuck between mothers with crying kids, angry teenagers, and a angry bus driver who didn't care for the speed limit. And why is there always gum at least somewhere in you're eyesight? That's disgustingly gross, that and the smell of the majority of the buses and trains.

I'm in drivers ed and I agree with others..Go for it. Why wouldn't you get your license? You'll regret not getting it next time you need a drive somewhere.

Re: Driver's License
If you think you'll enjoy or benefit from driving then yes.
If you have barely any money and dont think its worht it.. then no.
I couldnt live without a car anymore.. bought a new one the other day which uses like double the amount of fuel than my old car. My bank has now got £40 in it til next Friday. Argh.

Woot, I'm going for it.
I couldn't agree more. The last time I went on a train some chick that sat next to me kept on rubbing my arm with her elbow.

Free car?
If she offers to pay for the insurance and gas as well, it's a no-brainer.

I kick myself now that I didn't start learning to drive when I was 17, I am 28 soon and you know the saying, you can't teach an old dog, new tricks...
Just go out and get your licence and start driving when you can.

I always thought you had a license. Oh, well.. It might be for the best to deny you the road anyway, who knows who you might send to the other world if you're always occupied by watching bunnies on the sides of the road.

Had a woman in my theory class trying to get her license while she was like halfway in her 40's xD So 28 isn't that bad.
