Need help - Computer restarts when playing
I updated my graphics driver (i have and ATI Radeon 9800 PRO card) and now whenever i log on and click the start button when choosing chars, my computer flashes a blue screen with letters and numbers and then restarts. I tried downloading a previous driver but it did it anyway
Anyone know what can i do to fix it?? It doesn't restart when playing other games like FIFA and NHL 09, World of Warcraft, Need for speed Underground...

i don't think u can install old drivers if u have a newer version installed already. so im guessing u do need to uninstall the new driver.
btw i had a similar problem with a nvidia 6200 with computer restarts and bsod, i downgraded the driver and it fixed everything.

Re: Need help - Computer restarts when playing
just rollback to the old drivers
just go in to device manager and right click on video then go roll back and hit next next next.

Re: Need help - Computer restarts when playing
Sounds like BSoD.
It is most likely not related to Silkroad, but your hardware or drivers instead.
When the blue screen comes up, the information it shows is not just 'letters and numbers', it is important information and will probably show you exactly what is causing the problem.
Take a look at this: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1647

The Blue Screen of Death (also known as a stop error, BSoD, bluescreen, or Blue Screen of Doom) is a humorous term used for the error screen displayed by some operating systems, most notably Microsoft Windows, after encountering a critical system error which can cause the system to shut down to prevent damage.

It's a driver problem. I have a Sparkle Geforce 6200 but I installed the wrong driver (NVIDIA Geforce 6200) lol. After 4 years of using my pc, I realize that my graphic card is Sparkle but not NVIDIA lol. They are a bit the same but I tried both driver, both works, but the right one gives better performance.

No, it isnt.

Re: Need help - Computer restarts when playing
Driver is like a bridge between the pc and hardware. It tells the pc how to use the hardware. I used to have that blue screen too. I only need to fix drivers, clean pc, reinstall windows, etc... I don't need to buy a new hardware. That's why i said it's not a hardware problem. Your settings is not well configured, that's all.
wikipedia wrote:Bluescreens on NT-based Windows systems are usually caused by poorly-written device drivers or malfunctioning hardware.
In Windows NT-based operating systems, the blue screen of death (displayed in 80x50 text mode as opposed to 9x/Me's 80x25) occurs when the kernel or a driver running in kernel mode encounters an error from which it cannot recover

He starts getting BSoD after installing new drivers, must be a hardware problem! Dumbass..
Here's how you fix it, dude.
Uninstall all graphics drivers, you probably tried installing over the old ones the first time which caused the problem with silkroad.
Reboot, either install the old ones again or try out the new ones again. Reboot after they're installed once more. Should be fixed.

That makes absolutely no sense... Sparkle IS nVidia. There are two brands of video cards, nVidia and ATi. Sparkle is a manufacturer of nVidia video card (and there are many more).
To the OP, uninstall the video card drivers you just installed and use Driver Cleaner to get rid of any remnants of the drivers (stuborn files and registry edits). Then, reinstall the drivers you want to use. That video card you are running is really out dated. Try using the Catalyst 9.2 or 9.3 drivers. It could be an overheating issue as well, which is only remedied by better cooling/air flow.

Not exactly, they aren't the same.. one company just buys the GPU from Nvidia to make a card, then makes it how they want.. such as style, color, heatsink, and any tweaks like overclocking over spec. It's like... a logging company o.o, nvidia cuts down the trees, while another company like sparkle turns them into paper.

Re: Need help - Computer restarts when playing
sadly i never had the blue screen of death on anything but windows 98 because 98 sux. but right click my computer, properties, hardware, device manager, display drivers, right click your graphics card, properties, driver, roll back driver.......that should roll back the driver to the version before.

Actually, they are the same.. they are just referenced different, look a little different and might have different clock speeds.. all of the parts come from nVidia... at any rate, there is no such thing as Sparkle drivers. All nVidia video card drivers are nVidia unless you get some 3rd party hacked drivers.

Spoiler!
Source: The internet (Yes I know they're talking about motherboard, but the exact same thing applies to video cards.)
Basically... they aren't the same company, they just have contracts and work together.
But you're right, Sparkle doesn't make drivers. They just slap a download link on their website for the same drivers nvidia's site provides (though I already knew that)
Lempi.. Sure, it could be anything. His problem started when he tried installing new drivers, so there's a 99.99% chance that that is the problem. No need to say it could be anything when there's only a 00.01% chance that it is. Just go and stay in OTL please.

ok lets say i know what i am talking about.. you know since i am A+ certified and my day job is a network technician..
as Devilman said after he updated his drivers the problem start. this meas as i take it the system was working fine before the new driver.
so if he does what i said and rolls back the driver it will restore the driver used when it worked.
this is not bad hardware. it is just a shity driver problem.. ATI makes shity drivers.

Re: Need help - Computer restarts when playing
"the blue screen" as it has been called shows a message ....it is very easy to right that code/ number and put it in to google ...it will give u a HIT very close whit the problem. It usualy isn;t a prb whit drivers ..most likely is whit the windows xp ( or what u have installed ) or it;s a very serious hardware problem .
I. Download latest driver that suport you;re video card.
1. Reinstall the drivers .
2. reboot pc
3. Clean the drivers whit ati tools programs ( they delete all from registry)
4. reboot pc
5. install the new driver .
6. reboot pc
if it does the same then it is not a driver problem
II check conections on mainboard ( hard disk , cd-rom, video card, etc ) - pc TURN OFF !!
after that try again .,,
if it does the same thing ...download a test to stress video card and see the results ...
If the answer is ok then u have to reinstall thw Windows u use .
If the same problem apear after then u have to look close up at you;re source -power, after that is the mainboard ( those parts are hard to explain)

All you did was install updated drivers. You originally said that you changed drivers after 4 years. In that 4 year time frame there were probably 50 driver revisions written and released.

No offnese, but A+ does not mean jack. A retarded monkey can pass the A+ exam. All A+ does is pad a resume (and even then no one cares about A+). Network Technician /= hardware driver issue troubleshooting. Get your .Net, MCSE, MCSA, etc.. certifications.
Rolling back drivers is a bad idea. All it does it go back to a better working driver, but still leave the other driver install (the newer one) intact and, most likely, cause more problems. ATi makes perfectly fine drivers. The problem stems from those that do not know how to install drivers.
To the OP, uninstall any ATi drivers you have running and run driver cleaner (or use the ATi driver remover utility). Download the Catalyst 9.3 drivers and install those.

Re: Need help - Computer restarts when playing
In between the nerd rage let me know if you find a solution Devil. I have a similar problem, when I built my first PC I threw in an 8800 GT and occasionaly when I run 1 WoW client I'll get the issue, but when I run 2 it happens very regularly. I'm not even sure what component is causing the issue but I don't think it's the 4gb ram or core 2 3ghz... Stopped trying to figure it out after tweaking shit for like a month.

like you said "All it does it go back to a better working driver" that's the point. to stop the computer from restarting and allow him to play silkroad again.

That's not the point. The point is to get a stable working computer. Rollng back the drivers does not do this. Driver conflicts normally occurr when you have multiple drivers installed for the same piece of hardware (or the completely wrong drivers). The multiple drivers conflict with each other and cause the problems (namely BSODs - You can also get BSODs from overheating or an unstable overclock, but I doubt that either one of those is the problem in this case). The only want to get the computer running more stable is to uninstall all of the ATi drivers and remove any registry entries using Driver Cleaner or ATi's driver remover tool. After that is done, download the latest drivers (for ATi that would be the Catalyst 9.3) and install those. Then, go about redoing the settings you had (resolution, multiple monitors, CrossFire, Overclocking, etc..).
Rolling back the drivers does as much good as deleting a piece of software instead of uninstalling it. Registry changes will still be there and still cause problems. Fixing computers and networks for a multi-million dollar company does not mean much when you give bad advise.
Re: Need help - Computer restarts when playing
It takes all of 5 minutes to do it right. Uninstall old drivers using control panel. Reboot into safe-mode, run driver cleaner. Reboot into safe-mode again, install the catalyst drivers 4-n-zics recommended. Reboot and enjoy.
