Tiered bandwidth caps.
So you might or might not of heard of this, but Time Warner has decided to put a bandwidth cap internet usage in Austin (where i live). Now a bandwitdh cap may not sound so bad, but when you look at how ridiculous the plan is, it makes me rage.
The known rates have the highest bandwidth cap at $55 for 40GB. Then it's $1 for every GB you go over your cap. I've personally used 65GB in the past 7 days. Now they expect me to limit 40GB a month? i use on average 150GB a month. There is a 100GB plan that doesn't have a set price but it is going to be "significantly" higher that $55. Now they are doing this for a city of 750k people, They did a test for this in a city of 115k people.
Read this if you want to know more.

Re: Tiered bandwidth caps.
That isn't too bad.
Australia = 60gb plan = $130AUD. Every Megabyte over 60gb costs $.15AUD. (1024*.15=153.6 which equals $153.6 per gig). I think anyway, I'm hopeless at maths.

Re: Tiered bandwidth caps.
Why should they even have caps? Is this just to make more money for them?
Seems gay either way, luckily my ISP has no caps lol, for now =x.

Change to a different company that doesn't have caps. That is, unless time warner has a monopoly in your area.

Re: Tiered bandwidth caps.
I thought caps were extinct.
Even if I wouldn't download shit like torrents I'd pass 40 gig easily. I feel for you and I'd get a new provider. Everyone should get a new provider in your area to send out a message.
Just like some provider who wanted to share their information with a copyrights company, I think 90% of the customers left.

U-Verse isn't shitty.. well only one part. The 'dynamic ip' is bullshit. They say you have it, but you can't really change the ip or I haven't figured it out yet. lol. Constant connection always <3 Even when downloading shit doesn't lag up.
TBH I like U-Verse, but then again.. it's that or comcast in my area. I can't really say anything then.
Edit : There is like a few others available in my area, but I'm not sure what they are.. I know AT&T DSL isn't available in my area atm(It's full) and U-Verse is only available if you can't get DSL. Something like that.

Don't be suprised if they start capping your city too. They are doing this as "tests".

Another thing about AT&T.. their DSL is good if people in your area don't use the internet at all or just browse sites and not download. I used to reach 800kb+ at times when it's supposed to be around 550 ish.
U-Verse doesn't work like that.. I'm always at the same speed. =[

Sorry to quote this post, but was bit faster. Errrm, do you not have a onctract with them for 1/2/3/4/5 years ? Breaking the contract would be rules violation .. unless they are sneaky bastards and slipped in the odd fontsize 1 rule. Take them to court tbh.
But this shit was obvious thought, TW proved they don't give 2 shits about their customers though. Back in 06 when the viets got banned .. or 07 .. forgot now and joymax accidentally banned TW's ip range. Shame you can't go to a different ISP.
Oh and lol at Austria again. Shame on you aussies.
