how? why are some people so very smart and shit? what are they doing differently than from most of us? i mean shit im jealous of this kid at my school that parties all the time, never opens the book, make A's as easy as breathing, very creative, and an excellent problem solver than that solve everything thrown at him while everyones going wtf. probabaly genetics have something to do with it, but if it does it must play a very small role. i just refuse to see how it can play a huge role, right? . but does anyone know with certainty or have friends with someone like uber smart and know what they are doing differently?

oh btw, speaking of that, do we have any geniuses like that on SRF? imo, i doubt a genius would play SRO. probabably if such person exist, hed probably play the game, do some spectacular no one done before, then quit the game and move on to some other shit since i doubt theyd enjoy grinding this game, but just my guest, but anyways back on topic... how is the environment of geniuses different from us? are they secretly doing puzzles or know something that they are hiding form us? discuss

Intelligence comes from a choice in the subconscious. If you don't wanna learn you simply won't learn. So here's what you do, change your thinking. I'm in youthbuild in Oregon and one of our instructor's is a great motivational speaker and he preaches this all the time. It comes down to the way you WANT to think. Although yes sometimes ppl are just born dumb

intelligence is a person ability to process and understand information. A man can read a thousand books but lacking understanding he gains nothing. Just because a person is intelligent doesn't mean they are less ignorant than anyone else. An intelligent person can just as easily refuse to read or learn and that person will be just as ignorant as the man who read 1000 books he did not understand. Things just come easier to some than others but if you put effort into it eventually you can just as much knowledge even if you aren't as intelligent. The hard worker vs the naturally gifted. If you want to increase your intelligence then you have challenge yourself intellectually. You have to stimulate your brain over and over again just to keep with those who naturally have more intelligence.

Read. Comprehend. Challenge your brain, do puzzles, etc. Go past your capabilities, push yourself.

I have seen studies that state your IQ can change slightly, if you don't push yourself or maintain your brain it can drop a few points.

It's relative anyway, some people have a higher IQ and lack social skills, others are much better socially but have slightly less IQ.

And about problem solving: EXPERIENCE. More you spend time with difficult thing (math,stradegy,puzzles,social problems etc.) more good you are in solving things. For example I am studying special advanced math in high school and my teacher always tells us that we are going to be better in solving things (in general ofc, there are always exceptions) than ppl studying normal math.

How the hell did you come up with the idea that every millionaire reads 1 non fiction book per month? It makes no sense. If it did, reading non fiction books would have a significant impact on our chance to become a millionaire or to stay one.
edit: not to mention being intelligent isn't really a requirement to be a millionaire, millionaires don't necessarily reflect onto intelligent people.

This is another perfect example of it.
Millionaires or intelligent people are not aliens and do not have crazy routines or read 1 non fiction book per month, or even perform better in video games.

Furthermore, reading books increases your knowledge at best, they don't really increase your intelligence. It also depends on how you define intelligence. I define it in the efficiency people learn new things, your ability to learn so to say.
You will increase your knowledge with reading books, but not your intelligence, imo.

OP: It's not about how much you know. It's about how quickly you learn. However, that aspect either comes naturally or it doesn't. Personally I've found myself to be one of the former thus far(note i'm only a freshmen in HS so it may change). I can spend 7-10 hours a day playing an MMO or just doing some C++/Java for fun and ace the chapter test the next day. I just get it.

Genetics is not the only (and certainly not the main) variable responsible for determining a person's intelligence. Intelligence is a very subjective matter; just because someone gets an A in math and "never opens a book" for it doesn't mean that the outcome will be similar in other situation. We all have our area of expertise and personal interest. IQ testing for example is flawed in a number of ways; people don't realize that there are several factors that affect the test taker's score - environment, significance, and the person's development in a certain cultural/social setting are just a few of these. However, I do not refute the fact that the brain structure does play a significant role on a person's intelligence or rather his/her ability to learn and master a certain skill, critical thinking, or simply the ability to understand things more quickly than an average member of the same age/social group - to put it in simple words: "pick-up." There are several studies conducted on people around the ages of 18-25 and people around 30 and the results showed that younger adults have better memorization and learning skills whereas people around their 30s have better critical thinking or application skills. There are also certain "gifted" people who have abilities that almost no one else has. Take for example the man who was featured all over the news about a year or two ago: this man remembers every detail of his daily life since he was (correct me if I'm wrong) around the age of 11 - to compete with such an extraordinary ability is simply out of grasp. All in all, it really just depends on how you look at it. Don't linger on the fact that someone's earning As in certain subjects; don't even bother competing with that person. Just try to find a field where you excel in and focus on that - who knows, someone might even look up to you and be jealous of how "smart" you are.

Most ppl does'nt even understand what you try to explain them.
In time you'll be an outlaw in class as in life later.
You're suspectible to mental diseases, mostly deppression becoz of loneliness etc etc etc.

My exgf is the member of Mensa Hungarica and she is a schizophreniac ( it has its uses, but only in the bedroom... otherwise living with it is hell on earth) i was lucky this illness wasnt that serius.
I have deppression since i remember, very few times i felt happy. One of my other gf's had maniac deppression, she almost went suicide.

Most ppl think if you have high iq, you're a "genius" but its not like that. You perceive too much, you think too much, see what others cant but you cant explain coz others cant understand you and this ability gives you a damn hard time in your life. Most ppl from mensa i know just want to be happy, thats all. Some work in a fast food restaurant, others work at the hungarian post office, one of them is a porn actress:D (Michelle Wild >_< )

It could be a blessing, however. You can help others a lot coz if you dont, this ability comsumes you on many levels...

And yes intelligent people do infact lack something non intelligent people do. It has to do with memory. The minds of intelligent people work in such a way that denies space for common knowledge. Which will cause them to do such things as for get the names of common things, or cause them to forget how to spell common words. This is because their minds are overwhelmed with more important, complex things. This also causes them to lack common sense at times.
