Fishing

Post by vietxboy911 »

I wouldnt say im a complete nab at it, but i'd like some advice on how to fish and what you people do to get better at it.

I'm heading out to fish around the coast of Florida tommorow with my brother, so I'd see if i can get any advice before going out again :P I use the spinning rod type of fishing poles, and i know how to cast, but I dont think im very good at it. Are you suppose to use pure force and throw it out or is it technique? I know how to hook on the bait and stuff, know when to reel the bait in ( if its still there ) and be able to use it again 2-3 times before it becomes ineffective, and i guess im okay in reeling in a fish when it bites; for ex. I caught my first fish last time I went fishing... I waited until I knew a fish was biting, yanked on the rod, and reeled it in. Whats your ways? :P

I love going fishing ever since i started ( must be cause im asain and my whole family does it :P ) and I wanted to get better so i keep on going. /Discuss your experinces/techniques/advices

I caught the biggest fish of the day all by myself; my first time fishing, on my first cast. xD

Quick Google gave me this: http://www.takemefishing.org/fishing/fi ... ow-to-fish

Hope it helps. :) Fishing = :D (I always return my fish, though)

The more you do it the better you'll get at it. Casting is technique and finesse. Practice trying to cast to certain points on the water. The more you do it the more accurate you'll be casting. Its not as crucial in saltwater fishing, especially if you're using live bait, but still a nice skill to have. Being able to cast a lure/bait exactly where you want it is nice.

I've done a good bit of saltwater and freshwater fishing, but by far my favorite is freshwater bass fishing. In my opinion it takes a lot my skill and practice to master. I've done a lot of offshore fishing and if you drop down live bait you'll generally catch something every time.

Are you fishing from a boat or from the land/flats? I'm not very experienced in flat fishing..

Spend most of my time bass fishing, fishing the "McDonalds Big Bass Splash" in April, biggest amateur fishing tourney in the US. :)

Careful with fishing.. once you catch the bug you'll be obsessed. :P

probably not going to get too much around a dock area, esp. saltwater, but I am no expert at saltwater fishing. Last time I fished saltwater we took home a king salmon, probably about 50 lbs - and a halibut, no idea how much that weighed. That was over 25 years ago. Now I just fish from a boat. There are 10,000 lakes here in Minnesota :) and lots of walleye and bass.

Anyway, casting's easy enough, just let the rod do it's job. Make sure you tie good knots and use appropriate line for the fish, and good lures and bait. The temperature of the water and time of day may impact what you catch too.

That's about all I can suggest, since I'm not sure what you're fishing for.

I never really went fishing in salt water areas. You shouldn't use full force to cast obviously, you'll break the line :p

I've been fishing in the Boundary Waters on three different occassions, all week long trips. I love it up there. (<- From Texas) Not a fan of the Pike though..

Fishing from docks and piers you're a little more limited. See if they have designated fishing piers around the coast. They tend to be loaded with fishermen..and for good reason. Again, I don't do much saltwater fishing from the shore/docks so I can't give much advice on it.

You dont understand it then. Its about relaxing and... fishing 8)

well idk if the place where we go is a designated fishing spot, but people go there to fish on a daily basis, so im guessing it is? Some people caught about more than 20+ that same day, in my lucky spot where i went last time :(

lol. was same with one of my teachers back in the days.
he used to explain to us how you can determine if a fish
is a male or a female;

throw the fish up in the air. if he lands on his balls,
it's a male.

I love fishing, but I'm not too good at it, but that doesn't stop me from waking up 6am, going down to the rocks, and just sittin' there.

I just love the atmosphere whenever I go fishing, always calm and relaxing, I dont' really get frustrated because I don't get a catch that day... it's all part of the experience.

I haven't really been on a boat because I normally don't have the money to rent one or anything like that, but I would really like to, hear it takes the experience to another level.

Anyways, back to the techniques, all I do is put some live bait on a normal set up of a sinker, cast out and wait, tense my line and feel for a nibble.
I'm pretty sure it's different on a boat, but boat fishing is still alien to me so I'm not too sure.

^ I dont think it would be that different from a boat lol, except when you go out far enough the fish will be bigger. I only went once, and thats when I didnt know how to fish, and my bro didnt even help me cast :banghead: Everything looked the same as I do usually on land, except the boat supplied live bait~ bullets to cast with.

Mmmm, sounds good..
I always want that "1 in a million catch" type thing, so that's where my goals are.

I've been fishing ever since I could remember haha, back when I was in Cali my dad took me to "The Rocks" all the time, about 5 or so, I wouldn't fish mind you because I didn't know how.
I would just fish for the crabs that hid on the rocks haha, but luckily my dad was cool enough to let reel in once he got a hook, I would always say " It's pulling me!!!" haha good times :P.
