Accessories's damage absorption

Post by RUMS »

I was told that damage absorption work such that they take away XX% of the damage ppl dealt to you but with the 10d accessories all coming out, its possible to get 100% damage absorption. So actually how does the absorption works?

The numbers don't "stack" like that, you don't add them up. Each one takes a percentage away one at a time.. like this:

4 accessories, 25% absorption each.

10, 000 damage is dealt to you originally.

First accessory takes away 25%, now it's 7500.
Second does the same.. now it's 5625.. then 4219 and the final damage is 3165.

(Math would be 10,000 x .25 = 2500 therefore 10, 000 - 2500 = 7500.. etc.)

As you can see.. accessories are very important, even more so than your clothing. Any smart player would take a sun necklace over a sun chest any day.

Then in what order do the jewels go in? Lowest to highest? Highest to lowest? Ring->Ear->Neck? Randomized?

the order doesnt really matter :s its simple mutiplications...

A * B = B * A...
so if you have accessories with 10,15,20,25%, the final damage will be multiplied by (.9*.85*.80*.75) so you'll only take 45.9% of the original attack, if the math doesnt make sense, read up on your books :S

Edit!
I think you must calculate all the percent of accesory, exemple with 2 accesory 20%
20% +20% = 36%
If you take 10 000 x 0.36 =>3600
10 000 - 3600 = 6400

Ummm...what?

You never learn to school that 20% + 20% is not equal as 40%?
Ok I will try to explain:
You char have no accesory(and no gear we don't count the gear)
So he take 100% of damage when he receives a damage.
the accesory make him 20% abs.,so he go to 80% damage taken right?
but now you put another accesory(20%as well),don't forget that he def is 80%
20% of 80 = 16
so the abs will be 20+16% = 36% and not 40% for 2 acc ..
That why we will never be total immune even if we have 100% or 200%(I know that we will never go to these amount).

the damage numbers here cannot be true. If I get hit 2.2k crit from a mob without accessories, I really doubt with accessories I'm gonna get hit

1.65, 1.2375, .92, .69

That would be down to 690x damage :S :S.

It's how I learned it a long time ago, and everyone seemed to agree.. I've never seen any other explanation, but if someone wants to provide one with evidence then I wouldn't argue. .

the absorption goes up with each level.. as does monster damage, obviously, so you aren't going to be hit 2.2k crit without accessories at a level where all your accessories are 25.0+.. as used in my example
