Yup, still can't find a MMO rivaling anywhere near the capabilities and beauty of SRO.
Aion hopefully? Then B&S of course.

Re: Silkroad Appreciation
best skills, most enjoyable pvp....least endgame content, most corrupt staff...
I think I'll play a less graphically driven game as long as it has a good staff and better endgame.
I admit, I loved sro for a long time...but all things become old at one point or another. It's human nature to get bored with something that doesn't change. Don't let the problems kill your happiness with the game. I never once regretted a single thing I did in SRO.

I found no other game with as fun skills! The skills in SRO is actually fun to watch.
Re: Silkroad Appreciation
Only free MMO that came close to SRO for me was CABAL... yeah.
Rappelz was fun too, but all the other games had something missing for me.

I share the same feelings as the thread starter....I got so bored and tired of silkroad and went off to try over a dozen other MMOs and after playing them for a bit I realized how SRO is much better...better in graphics and history..way more appealing.
I've played WOW for like 20 minutes....I know so many people that played WOW and they tried to get me to play it as well... I even went as far as almost creating an account...but I couldn't play it..It lacks appeal..It seems to be built for 10 year olds...For me it just plain suck...

Re: Silkroad Appreciation
I have jumped from game to game, but in the end, SRO is what I come back to. I like the detail put into the environment and the characters, the simplicity of the gameplay, and it's awesome community(including the good and the bad eggs).
WoW was much more complex/deep and pulled me in for a while, but I like playing my games, not living in them. Also, the deformities in everything annoyed me a lot(HUGE forearms, polygonal everything ftl).

i like how simple sro is to play but how complicated it is once you get better at the game and have to learn to set skills/alchemy
one of easier learning curve games but stil lots to learn even if you know how to play since skills/builds differ a lot sometimes

Anyone who thinks WoW is childish, too cartoonish, easy, etc, has obviously never played any of the end game content. It is a game that truly does not even come close to begin until you are capped.
The end game content is NOT made for young people, either. It requires some serious strategy, planning, and teamwork. Definitely not for the light gamer. Watching YouTube videos of boss fights don't do the process justice either. You would have to experience it to really get the full appreciation.

This one comes close to it:
Code: Select all
Make sure to see it in glorious HD
Blizzard merely took a different art direction. It may look childish/cartoonish but it sure makes up way more with its contents. JM just slaps in some bloom effects and couldn't even get the shadows right. But whatever: Substance > Form

Yeah, that vid is pretty sick. I haven't played the 80 cap, but during the 70 cap when BT and Sunwell were the end game raids, the shit was hard. I don't mean the mobs hit hard and it was difficult to stay alive, I mean the shit was HARD to do. Literally. The boss fights are not simple face-to-keyboard button mashing fests. If one single person screws up, everyone is dead. If the main tank dies, everyone is dead. If a healer goes down, everyone is dead.
Lot of pressure in end game, but the suspense and excitement are unparallelled (sp?).

I have a few friends that play it... So yes, I can tell that it's cartoonish and childish.
Yes it requires strategy, but every MMORPG does (if you just smash the keyboard, it means you're not that good in that game)

0x33 IS a team of godlike programmers that cracked an expensive bot for SRO and made it more affordable while adding more features. They still produce the crack although the forum is closed for general silkroad discussion.
0x33 WAS the best community as a whole to ever touch SRO. They weren't a "BOT COMPANY" like so many people think. Rarely any drama there. Just good times. I miss it so much.

Oh btw... are you allowed to mention them?

From 5 easy ways to get banned-topic.
1) Be a bot supporter. Change your avatar to the pointy-finger bot symbol. Put "0x33" somewhere in your sig. Talk openly about, admit to, or suggest botting in a thread. Ask about how to buy, offer to sell, or post links to bot clients, etc. DOING ANY OF THESE THINGS WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN. There will be no warnings. There will be no discussion. There is ZERO tolerance.
It's not in the sig, but in a post.

i love this game so much.. lol
The one month i played everyday, in hera, was so awsome, i swear.
I'd love to have 2 lives, the one that's normal, and one where i could just play silkroad.
I swear... lol
You know, i love real life too and all its stuff, i love nature, women, music, eating, ppl i like, and living and stuff, but silkroad is so cool >.<''
If i had prem, a 8 ppl euro pt, sp ticket, and a dress, in a new server, i'd be like, happy as hell lol
I know it sounds crazy, but i'm very passionate about silkroad.
When europe wasnt around isro, i used to get in ksro, go to const, its music almost made me cry, it was so epic...
When i started playing, janguan music touched me as well...
I can't even explain it right, u get it tho

My brother is watching me type this over my shoulder, and is a (in his words) Full member of 0x33 not just a botter, and that community was the best Silkroad community ever. But as i dont want to be banned, like my brother is, i wont say anymore than that
OT:
chickenfeather wrote:I fail to see how that description does not apply to a sro euro pt as well.
SRO Parties are NOTHING like wow parties. WoW doesnt have an autopot system, you dont just bash keys and hope the mobs die before you. Some bosses in WoW take 30mins to kill with a good group, in SRO a good geared person can pretty much solo a unique 10 levels below them.
A party in sro: A warrior gets agro while everybody else hammers at the mob. The cleric dies. The warrior pops a Pot, then a few vigors until the cleric is back - They carry on killing the same mob.
A party in wow: A warrior gets agro, then the DPS builds join in while the healer heals the tank and any AOE damage to the other people. The healer dies, the warrior dies, the rest of the group dies, the mob resets. You all res and begin the fight with a 100% HP boss.
As Montolio said, WoW takes logical thinking and stratagy. After you get to 80 and start getting geared and then onto raids, it takes alot of hard work, which will fail with a bad group. Unlike SRO where you can take any mob with a group u found in a few seconds, which are probably botting anyway. Go AFK in WoW in the middle of a fight and you will most likely wipe the raid.

Re: Silkroad Appreciation
The only thing really good about silkroad was its originality, though with the sox's I mean the creators had to know that there game would get completely farked with all the scamming and ccf'ing and such.
If the only way to pvp was either in jobbing or in the Fortresses I think this game would be way better than it is, because with the cape pvp (which is the main focus now) its just ooh who can get to the top fastest and have the best gear.

Re: Silkroad Appreciation
I have a friend who plays WOW, and by plays I mean he has 5 different builds lvl 80. And indeed, it does take a lot of coordination to form an efficient group. I don't remember all the strategies he talked about, but it sure like hell looked organized on his screen. They had like 3 healers, a tank, and idk how many glasscanons, but i saw ONE healer not doing his job properly, and 1 after another they all went down. What's better in wow also is the end story, something I fail to perceive in silkroad at all...
BUT, all other games are alike because they go standard: Races and classes like warrior and rogue and that's boring... Silkroad managed to change concept, focusing a lot more on actual Str and Int attributes, and the different elements, AND it managed to make it all equal...nothing is overpowered, which is the case in lots of games. I mean, that's why i fell in love with the game...not because i'm some bearded shrimp running around shooting a gun; but because i was a spearman, the guy with that HUUUGE thing that just went through you...yep, that's me; the one that leaves electrons, where mobs stood seconds ago. I love the grinding, because after spending 2 hours pwning Hygno ghosts ( long time ago) with some friends, while talking on vent, you actually appreciate that long process of leveling up. After a while you start noticing all the small details details u never saw before, like: how many of you guys actually remember HOW a hygno soldier dies??? any of you even noticed, that when you slice it in two, one half tries to pull itself up, by pulling on the other one, and they both fall down?? see, that's something you notice after grinding with some friends, and then the game becomes different...more fun.
Sry, i kinda went overboard with my description, but i do love the game. I have been playing it for 4-5 years i think, when Aege was the only server, i stopped a few times for a few months, but each time i began playing another game...i came back to SRO.
That's why for me...nothing can be compared to SRO.

The end game content of WOW wont change the big bird sesame street goofy looking anatomically incorrect characters that is comprised of WOW. It feels like watching tele-tubbies whenever I see people playing it..I wanna see cool looking characters wielding cool skills and abilities...I don't wanna see baseball game Mascots casting chain lightening or meteor shower..thats ridiculous.....I understand why most kids and young teenagers think its cool...

So you have never played any game with any sort of fictional characters?
Also, thank you Lempi for understanding. Atleast you know what you are talking about, rather than saying "I have watched my friend play for 3 minutes and made my assumptions" basically.

Many people incorrectly assume that online gaming is something that appeals only to teenage boys, but only 25 percent of MMORPG players are teenagers. According to some demographic surveys of WoW Players, the average player age is 28. Not too surprisingly, 84 percent of players are male and 16 percent are female. But female players tend to be older, with an average age of 32.

You hate ignorance? Then hate yourself for regurgitating someone else's survey of which you weren't apart of to claim how accurate it is while you sit there posting it like its gospel truth.
At least what I said was based on my own observations and while that observation doesn't speak for the entire WOW community it does speak the truth for the amount of teenagers I've "seen" loving it for its childlike qualities..

Your stupidity is laughable and pathetic.
It's called a reference, which you seem to lack in the gross generalizations you claim. Being part of a the survey (or any survey for that matter) is not a requirement to make any claims of accuracy. You just need a credible source. By the looks of it, Bob Larkin's claims far outweighs your mediocre observations by your pitiful anonymity.

Let's stop this trivial skirmish now that we're still on page two before it erupts to another one of the countless SRO vs WoW threads. (I apologize for contributing) This is Silkroad Forums. It's expected for most of its players to prefer it over other MMOs. If you want to have a debate on WoW vs SRO, there's ~12 million players out there. One of them might be willing to take you on, but it's not going to be me. Not in the mood for it. With that, I leave my Captain Obvious statement:
Gameplay > Graphics
Re: Silkroad Appreciation
I would still be playing actively if Euro parties didn't die out at the time I grind or I could find a nice spot to grind solo does not happen on Xian move servers why most everyone I know still on Xian. Now most everyone I know on WOW much happier able to grind when and where I want and cheaper too. In the 5 months before the cap I got fed up with all the bots and lack of grinding areas. If you still have fun good for you once I stopped having fun time to move on.

Re: Silkroad Appreciation
If joymax made euros and didn't make chinese at all. SRO would be equally as fun as WoW. It would require the exact same "teamwork" that WoW requires. Anyways, joymax is working hard on implementing things to do at cap. Look at medusa and roc. Roc itself doesn't die (wait till we get, fun funfunfunnnn), Medusa takes over an hour, and there's 6 mini uniques. Don't tell me that's not the same as a raid on WoW.
Things JM could do to fix capped boredom:
Fix guildwars.
More fortresses, and once every 3 days instead of every 2 weeks. (Change time duh)
Make reverse oblation/immolation not usable during FW or GW, this would make people want to GO to the wars more.
Fix nosuit buffing/ressing, and make level 85 or 90 trade animals.
Most of which could be fixed with about 5minutes work programming. I'm against WoW and it's social life destroying crap. People say SRO's bad like that, oh god, WoW is infinitely worse.
PS: Yes, I've played WoW. I've had a level 10 account (LOL), but I've played a friends higher level account (6X), still bored. Not to mention the UI is ridiculous.
Things JM could do to fix capped boredom:
Fix guildwars.
More fortresses, and once every 3 days instead of every 2 weeks. (Change time duh)
Make reverse oblation/immolation not usable during FW or GW, this would make people want to GO to the wars more.
