This is like other studies that show that only about 1/6 people will respond to a crisis first. The rest are sheeple who stand around waiting to see what everybody else will do, or to be told what to do.

It depends..those kids didn't look very intimidating so yer i would have easily stepped up in this circumstance.

Depends. If someone else is already interfering, I'm not going to bother to do the same. I won't stick around to watch it happen either. A few years ago two guys threw stones at a homeless person before it was even considered a hype. Everyone was watching, I threw one stone which hit one of them right on the forehead, and they left right away. As long as nobody does anything they won't stop, but in most cases it doesn't take much for them to leave. I was a short, skinny 14 year old.

Either way, don't count on the fact that someone will help you, the majority won't do anything but watch. I collapsed on the sidewalk once when I was really ill, and I laid there for a good 20 minutes. Nobody even bothered to ask if I was alright, and then and there I figured out it's not a good idea to wait for help.
Best is to defend yourself, learn to look after yourself, because in the end, there's only one you can really depend on, and that is you.

I stay out of the way of people...in the suburbs i might step in if i had some friends with me and it was just a bunch of punks but in the city forget about it...such is life i guess, but im not going to join someone else on the floor for no reason...9 times out of 10 even if you explain to someone that what they're doing/going to do is asinine they'll still do it because they're probably assholes....
