THE gran of 13-year-old Alfie Patten’s baby said yesterday as social workers stumped up for the lad to get a DNA test: “The sooner the better.”
Girlfriend Chantelle Steadman’s relieved mum Penny declared amid claims her daughter slept with other boys: “Social services agreed to do it for the sake of the children.
“The sooner it’s done the sooner Chantelle and Alfie can get on with being parents.”
She and Chantelle’s dad Steve begged social workers for help after two boys aged 16 and 14, who also live on the Old Town estate in Eastbourne, claimed they fathered Maisie.
Up to SIX others have made similar claims — despite Chantelle insisting: “Alfie’s the only boy I’ve been with.”
Social services had previously rejected the £300 test.
Alfie — just 12 when Maisie was conceived — is positive he is the father.
Mum Nicola looked strained as she left their home in nearby Hailsham yesterday after a florist arrived with a bouquet.
Alfie and Chantelle have vowed to be good parents — and last night The Sun took action to help them.
We brought in parenting experts Raise A Child, who said: “We can give them step-by-step advice on successful parenting.
“This includes all aspects like the child’s general welfare, health and development.”
Why do you all presume that she slept with all these boys? Just because they all say they are the father doesn't really mean they are. I reckon that most only wanting to get in the paper and have their 15 mins of fame.

13-year-old dad 'doesn't know where his baby is' Tuesday, February 17, 2009 nicola patten alfie Nicola Patten: 'Where's Chantelle?' The mother of baby-faced dad Alfie Patten today admitted she has no idea where new mum Chantelle Steadman and her baby have gone.
Nicola Patten, 43, came out of the family home in Eastbourne, East Sussex in a panic this morning and apparently asked a waiting photographer: "Do you know where Chantelle is?
Does any one know where Chantelle is?"
"Even Alfie doesn't know where she is! He doesn't know where his own baby is?"
Alfie later emerged from his family home in Hailsham with his face covered by a hooded top.
Accompanied by a young woman, he was driven off in a Renault Clio and made no comment.

Chantelle, 15, is said to have earlier 'done a bunk' in the cover of darkness with her and Aflie's new baby Maisie from her parents' home in nearby Hailsham.
The mystery of baby Maisie's whereabouts came after reports that Alfie's mum is due to face court for letting him play truant.
Nicola Patten is expected to appear before Eastbourne magistrates next Tuesday, accused of letting the 13-year-old stay off school for five months last year.
Mrs Patten, 43, is being prosecuted under the Education Act by East Sussex county council, for failing to ensure Alfie regularly attended Willingdon Community School.
The council today refused to comment when asked about this - and insisted they would no longer be speaking publically about either Alfie or Chantelle, who lives in nearby Hailsham.
But a spokeswoman for HM Courts Service said Mrs Patten was due to appear at Eastbourne Magistrates' Court on February 24 "for failing to send a child to school".
She said the prosecution was brought by East Sussex County Council's education welfare service but was unable to confirm whether the child in question was Alfie.
Reports had suggested the council was prepared to pay for a DNA test, after several more local teenagers came forward claiming to have had sex with Chantelle about nine months ago.
It is now thought that the council will not be paying for this, though a spokesman would only say: "Our primary duty is the protection of children and young people.
"We do not believe the interests of the children and young people in this case are being well served by the current media coverage of it.
"We will continue to do our professional job of supporting these children and young people and putting their interests first, and for that reason we will not be commenting on this issue further."
