hey hey :)) I'm going to Tremblant maybe also! :D try skiing if you don't want to hurt your ass too! BTW... est tu montrealais?

Master_of_Puppets wrote:And by the way, Mont-Tremblant is for experts... I mean there are easy slopes, but most are hard, good luck if you have never done any before 8)

Thanks for making it easier for myself >.<

And yes I'm from Montreal ^^ Vive la poutine!

Well... After all, I'm gonna try skiing first since most of the people say it's a lot easier. Thanks everyone.

if you can't back that up with proper proof as to why snowboarding is for
the technically unsophisticated, then you're full of crap.

i suppose you haven't tried snowboarding, since that would make you part
of us technically unsophisticated humans. srsly, back up your own story
before telling us we have to. i have done both skiïng and snowboarding,
and in the end i found snowboarding more fun. and both require a good
amount of technique.

please tell me you've properly tried snowboarding (as in, you can go
downhill, take turns on it, etc).

first of all, i can back up my arguemnt. i jsut didnt want to type that much. and i wont go into detial, but im assuming you know alot about skiing and boarding.

in skiing, it gets harder as you become better, but in snowboarding, it gets easier as you master techniques. once the basics are mastered, it becomes easier compared to skiing (not saying it is easy).
and again i will assume you knwo what i mean:
in skiing, you go from pizza and fries into parallel turns, and into hockey stops. then you can do alpine skiing and monguls.
then for even more of a challenge, you can do back country. which is extremely physically demanding, which i know snowboarding is too.
i think the toughest skiiers i ahve seen do telemark skiing. that becomes a whole new ballgame.

for snowboarding however, i only know a few ppl who are good at nowboarding, and i dont nkow advanced terms.
but in teh beginning, you learn how to control speed adn carve. S-turns and grabs, 360s alpine snowboarding. beyond that i dont know much. please tell me about it though.
in terms of speed, technipue and maneuverbility, skiing has an edge.
we all know skiing is faster, as far as maneuverbility goes, you can backcountry, and ski through trees (as in outside of slopes), which i havnt seen a snowboarder do. i dont think i even have to go into telemark skiing.

i hope i ddint offend you by saying if you cant back your argumrnt, yuor full of crap. its more intended to the people who finds the idea of one appealing with no real reason. my argument is that i find skiing more challenging and the purpose is to open my eyes if snow boarding reuires more skill adn technique tahn skiing.
boyaka boyaka.

basically, u'r listing 10 things about skiing and 5 things about snowboarding, of course u'll favor skiing more; u'r better at skiing than at snowboarding (have u even tried it?).

u've completely missed buttering, flat ground tricks aka. ollies, nollies, 1s, 3s, 5s and all variants of them.

also, moguls are more demanding on snowboarders than they are on skiers.

granted, freestyle snowboarders are majority, so u'll see less alpine and free carve boarders out there.

i'm more of a free ride person, but i'd rather do tricks down the slope than bomb down it.

yeah i said i dont know too many good snowboarders. but im talking about just hitting the slopes. not like the X-games.

and i have actually tried it. took 1 lesson and tahts it though. i like the feel of skiing better. skiing is faster, and i have a bad memory of seeing my shirt frozen after a day. actually if i recall correctly, it drained my energy more than skiing

see right now im at a level of skiing that i can ski through trees, im not very good, teh best i can do with my level of courage or fear. and i ahve not seen any snowboarder go through trees before. the maneuverbility isnt there. secondly, i had to rest once every now and then, but skiing i can go through teh whole run without stopping. can you do taht? like do a run without stopping? i alpine through the steeper parts and just blow through the last parts as fast as i can.

i would bomb down every run if the chair was really fast. but that doenst happen. iv seen people do 360s down a slope, but no other tricks down a regular slope.

man the feel of skiing through fresh powder at 200mph...
it didnt hurt me 1 bit when i fell when i was a beginner. i had no control over my skis.

Edit* and i didnt want to mention that many snowboard terms. my friends show em them.
like butter, presses, fakie, traverse, mogul (is it harder to control with board?),glades...
boyaka boyaka.

it's all preference really, ski isn't > snowboard and snowboard isn't > ski.

i'm obviously not good enough on skis to try moguls, but my skier friends tell me that snowboarding is a lot harder on the calf and thigh muscles.

yeah you have to kick your legs really hard.

but im only saying skiing is more technically advanced than snowboarding. it requires more skills, and it is alot harder. i already stated that i will not argue which is more fun, and hope you wont too.

^^

I've been skiing for 13 years, and snowboarding for 5 years.... I'm getting my level 1 for skiing, and I am already an instructor, as for snowboarding, that's once every year lol! But it is true that snowboarding is technical, but not as much as skiing. Once my ski teacher told me that, she doesn't snowboard that well, but the technical stuff are so alike that she can teach it, even without know how to properly snowboard. She is not an idiot either, she has her level 3 instructor level, and she is going for her level 4 (The highest possible level for skiing level. At that stage your skiing all year long, during NA summer, your in New Zealand skiing there.)

I hope that ends all argument, skiing and snowboarding technical are the same. (Of course don't flame with the extremes. I'm talking about the basic understanding of both.)

<< just came back from vacation, Snowboarding ftw.
Had so much fun especialy love jumps and grinding etc on a snowboard.
Can someone explain why people usualy keep saying that snowboarding is so much easier then skiing?
Skiing seems so easy to me x__X snowboarding is harder for the basics (look at starting boarders and starting skiiers, boarders fall down every 5 seconds, skiiers yea.. dont fall at all :P) and with snowboarding you can try some grinds etc...
Skiing is so much more boring imo ^^

this topic brings back bad memories.... during winter break went snowboarding and when we were driving home got in a car accident, was lucky the injuries were not fatal at the speed the collision happened. The car got completely totaled... and had to go to the hospital.. dont have much memory about the situation tho

skiing is easier to start. but snowboarding is pretty hard to begin with. that we can say is universal because after 1 lesson u can pizza your way down a slope.
and in the beginning, snowboarding is more physically demanding than skiing

Skiing is so much more than just snowplow/pizza. Learning to snowboard is hard at first but it doesn't get any harder. Skiing you have to learn to ski parallel, grind and land jumps without crossing your skiis. Snowboarding is far easier in the park and after you learn the basics it doesn't really go any further as far as technique.
