Russian Prime Minister Vladamir Putin has said the US should take a lesson from the pages of Russian history and not exercise “excessive intervention in economic activity and blind faith in the state’s omnipotence”.
“In the 20th century, the Soviet Union made the state’s role absolute,” Putin said during a speech at the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “In the long run, this made the Soviet economy totally uncompetitive. This lesson cost us dearly. I am sure nobody wants to see it repeated.”
Sounding more like Barry Goldwater than the former head of the KGB, Putin said, “Nor should we turn a blind eye to the fact that the spirit of free enterprise, including the principle of personal responsibility of businesspeople, investors, and shareholders for their decisions, is being eroded in the last few months. There is no reason to believe that we can achieve better results by shifting responsibility onto the state.”
Putin also cautioned the US against using military Keynesianism to lift its economy out of recession, saying, “in the longer run, militarization won’t solve the problem but will rather quell it temporarily. What it will do is squeeze huge financial and other resources from the economy instead of finding better and wiser uses for them.” Putin’s comments come in sharp contrast to Russia’s own military buildup and expansion.
Putin also echoed the words of conservative maverick Ron Paul when he said, “we must assess the real situation and write off all hopeless debts and ‘bad’ assets. True, this will be an extremely painful and unpleasant process. Far from everyone can accept such measures, fearing for their capitalization, bonuses, or reputation. However, we would ‘conserve’ and prolong the crisis, unless we clean up our balance sheets.”
“The time for enlightenment has come. We must calmly, and without gloating, assess the root causes of this situation and try to peek into the future.
i'll farken nationalize those companies for the time being when they still owe the government money, and then privatize it after it repay the government

Canada practices a mixed economy. Some socialism and some capitalism and we are doing pretty well by it. There is nothing wrong with socialism, but there is something wrong with communism and socialism together, which Russia practiced some time ago.
Plus, anyone who feels like they want to show their nationalistic pride by posting crap in this thread. Don't. It's ridiculous to go on with a "my country is better then your" debate, makes you guys sound retarded.

Um y do u refer to Russians as "they" if you're a mod on Russian forums that kinda proves that you're Russian or atleast Russian speaking so saying they Russians is kinda weird if you're Russian too XD
But on topic: who the hell cares what politicians say? And just like some1 mentioned before having a mixed economy seems to work better and like the example given it works pretty well in Canada
love forever love is free, lets turn forever you and me (c)Gorillaz

Did you not read why?
I know its because the government gave them money but they shouldn't have taken government money in the first place unless they planned to pay it back.

haha, welcome to the real world bud, where bad debt occurs
its all a politica stunt to diss america, you know, for the US being such a country, we get shit from everyone. I remember this conversation i had with a brit and he said "damn americans raiding countries for oil" and I was said "look, compared to the UK, we didnt colonize massive areas of land and then enslave the people and sell them, kill them, or use their countries as prson camps or exploit locals for cheap money." we do that on our own turf ^_^ we dont need shitty colonies. America isnt a bad country people, sometimes we may have shitty political leaders but a lot of have good hearts. And the reason why we only sent so little money to the tsunami victims is because our aw prohibits anymore more tax payers moeny to be sent without a proper vote so ..... off russia. We didnt go communism and ..... ourselves our dumbasses, so dont be preaching shit when ur full of it
nohunta wrote:LOL Ceo's needed caps on their salaries they dont DESERVE millions of dollars because they fked up their company.
Who are to say how much they deserve. It is their company. They have the freedom to make profits and keep their profits as long as they don't use the initiation of force to prevent others from doing the same. Now, since they no longer own their companies the government has the right to interfere. Regulations like wage caps are part of nationalization. How you handle your company is your business assuming you follow contracts and don't commit fraud. The problem is nationalization; what I want to know is how setting a wage cap for CEOs helps at all. It feels like more mob mentality classicism bullshit.
