Seriously, whether he was uninformed or not just cut him some slack. Yes his post came to some bad conclusions, yes he said some pretty immature things but seriously lay off. He made a thread with the intent of sharing something for you to view, all this petty bickering is getting no one anywhere.
As far as the 2 articles I read, it doesn't really suggest too much. For me it doesn't bother me at all, I don't download anything at all ( par the obvious updates blah blah ). What puzzles me are the suggested punishments.
vague article wrote:Under the three-strikes policy, a warning would be first issued to offenders who illegally share files using peer-to-peer technology to access music, TV shows and movies free of charge. The second strike would lead to the offender's internet access being suspended; the third would cancel the offender's internet access.
Yet the current penalties for such behaviour..
lame article..again wrote:Penalties include injunctions, damages and costs, fines of up to $60,500 for individuals and up to $302,500 for corporations per infringement and up to five years' jail.
-shrugs- if you ask me they are going a bit soft on the accused, but oh well. What's stopping someone from going to a library, downloading some music off the internet there, saving it to a flash stick and walking away? Wouldn't that mean the library gets these penalties? Or the same thing for an internet cafe? Oh well, its not like this is the worst idea the Australian government has come up with. Kevin Rudd's filtering program is beyond any forms of rationality. I wonder if he has ever used the internet before....
