What started last year as something of a joke from the "tongue & check" department at Business Week, and a supposedly outlandish column by Michelle Malkin, has now become a reality: the state of Connecticut is seriously considering a rescue package for The Bristol Press. Can the nation's premier junk-bond newspaper, The New York Times, or The Chicago Tribune—already in bankruptcy court—be far behind?

And I say no. The government should never had bailed out anyone in the first place. But since we're already on this slippery slope how long until we draw a line? *one that never should've been crossed might I add*

Newspapers are becoming/are a thing of the past. Their importance will continue to diminish as the world becomes more advanced with each passing year.

Newspapers fail when people don't buy them. It reflects on the nation as a whole and it's not something to be proud of. Just the way it is in North America concerning how much people know about global issues and their interest in what could be called "World Culture" is embarassing and is dragging us down.

true. i have never touched a newspaper in years..i get all my news online now or from the television. Imo..they should start increasing their online articles and maybe set up subcriptions that way. either way the # of ppl reading actual newspapers will keep going down.

I read the local newspaper, which covers both local, national, and international news. I will read an article on the internet if it interests me or grabs my attention, and I watch the news each night.

That's just me though. Yes, the # of newspapers sold in on a an obvious decline.

Newspapers fail when people don't buy them. It reflects on the nation as a whole and it's not something to be proud of.
