Begining a new chapter.(Its official)
First off sorry if you dont care. Im just so excited im telling everyone and their mother.
Well i graduated WyoTech for diesel mechanics Dec19th. Ive been struggling to find work in my hometown. Someone told me just to join the military, wich i had been thinking about for quite some time, so jokingly i called my mum and said i was enlisting. Supprizingly she supported me and thought it was a good idea. So i told my friend, a Seaman Recruit(US NAVY), and he wanted me to go visit with his recruiter. Well we got a bunch of the preliminary paperwork done saturday, and i am supposed to take my ASVAB test today. Well i just got a call from the recruiter and he told me since i have 72 College Credit Hours he can start me at an E3 pay grade, and with my college and a good score on the ASVAB, which he is confident about because i got a 90 on the MIL issue practice and passing is a 30, that i could be a candidate for an Officer in the Nuclear Power field. This means GREAT PAY! and a guarenteed job with early retirement. Im just so excited to finally be serving my country like so many of my relatives.

Re: Begining a new chapter.
Thanks for the confidence. All i can think of is G.W. Bush getting up in front of a mic and saying "You, uh, Sunk my battle ship"
To continue the SAGA,
I took my test today and i scored well but i want to retake it. I missed nuke by a few points but was very close. I am dissapointed but shit happens. I am scheduled for my physical next monday, can someone say "turn your head and cough"? LOL

Re: Begining a new chapter.
How much $$ do you get paid?
Do you get extra benefits for being in the USNavy? (i.e. Healthcare, Pension, etc etc).
If you do, then I guess it's worth your time. I plan on joining the Australian Air Force or Army when I leave school. Gets great pay in excess of fifty-thousand dollars a year once you finish year 12 for the "gap-year", pay from there on in only goes up, also when you sign up for another 4 years after the gap year you get a $10,000 bonus. Plus all the Army Benefits which the government then gives out.

Depending on the job field i pick i get an enlistment bonus of $20k or more. Right now im only looking at 1600 a month, but they pay housing and food bonuses. And there are awesome medical benifits.
* Full medical coverage and care in Navy or civilian facilities
* Full dental coverage and care from Navy professionals
# Discounted travel
# 30 days paid vacation each year
# Generous educational benefits
# $250,000 life insurance policy for $16 a month or a $400,000 life insurance policy for $26 a month
# Generous retirement income plus 401k-like Thrift Savings Plan
# Opportunities to earn advanced degrees at Navy expense
yeh gg, join the army for the most war hungry country in the world... dont argue it we all know its true
It is true i wont lie. But why not take an oppertunity to better myself and serve my country?

Sounds good. You should definitely take up the opportunity to join the Navy, or which ever branch.
In the Australian Navy, on your first year out of school (17 years old or older) you can join the Navy and get paid an around about $46,187 for the year. Which for your first year out of school isn't bad, especially for doing Basic training, logistics, Engineering, aviation or Navy Operations. You're also housed and are given food for free while at sea. All medical and dental treatment while at sea are also free of charge. Including if you need to see a specialist.
If you live away from the one of the many Barracks you're entitled to Rent Assistance, Service Accommodation, and Home Purchase Assistance Scheme. As well as "sick-leave" etc.

Re: Begining a new chapter.
Congrats on your career. My father served 23 years in the Army and will keep getting retirement checks until he dies.
It's a very good career, now may not be the best time for it though. Serve your 6 (or whatever it is lately) and go backup (like Natl Guard or something).
Yeah, the armed forces medical is very good as are the bennies.
To the person who suggested Africa: Sometimes it's better to get ourselves in a position where we are able to help others. JMHO.

If you had scored high enough for nuke would that mean your offshore services would be in a submarine? 'Cause that would suck.

How does charity in an African country help the world?
OnT: Gratz, I wanted to join the Army, but my dad said I wouldn't have his support; so, off to college for me. T_T

A nuclear powered submarine or ship yes.
I have re-evaluated what i would like to do in the navy so i may wait a little while before i actually sign the papers. I want to become an EOD tech(explosive ordinance disposal). Thats is special forces so i would train my ass off before i even enlisted for it.
Thank you all (well most of you)for your support! I greatly appreciate it.

Last time I checked Americans are also people in the world. So him joining the army to protect us would in fact be helping the people of the world. *Americans in this instance*

protecting from who the little terrorist oh i forget thats internal affairs so delt with by your police/fbi and what ever else, so that only leaves the threat of a larger scale military assult and terrorist bases outside usa
no one is gona attack the USA with a conventional army so leaves terrorists outside the usa, now Iraq was suppose to be the most dangerous country in the world took less then a few weeks to take over their citys leave only small pockets of resistance...jeez looks like america is in dia need of a bigger army and "help"
oh suppose their is always threat of nukes but if one of them is heading towards you its too late

charity work in africa....i don't think he went to school so he could end up doing charity work in some african country....is that really your definition of helping the world....lololol go to africa and save all the starving ppls....

1) People that live there
2) People that have family there
3) People that know people there
4) People that care about that sort of thing
5) People paying taxes
Either way you would fit into one of those categories unless you're a kid, in which case that wouldn't excuse your ignorance anyways.
Think before you write. Jokes your friends find funny at school aren't always funny here.
