Graphic card problem. Help plz.

Post by Sky »

I bought a new graphic card. Its EVGA 260gtx superclocked. I thought it would run silkroad on high settings but no. I installed everything and I started silkroad and then change the settings on high. It stutters once in a while but it didnt do what I expected. But my question is will it run better on windows vista since vista has some kind of thing that makes general graphic better? Also the graphic card is making some annoying noise?
Anyone with computer knowledge answer please. Dont need some guesses.

I heard that it was impossible...Bad scripting or something O_o

I got a 128mb onboard card in my laptop and I can run it in high without lag (maybe in hotan =p)

Got a dual core 2 ghz and 3gig of ram with vista =]

My laptop would insta-explode if I try to load hotan with detailed shadows xD

It can run fine in a grinding area tho...

Hmm...My old pc had a 2ghz processor, 512mb ram and a 128mb graphics card. It hardly ran the game, it's possible that I had to much shit (pronz anyone? o.o) on it so it slowed down. But loading sro took sooooo long. And loading hotan, I could go afk for 10mins and then maybe it was loaded.

I have a 260 but no problems other than the noise you're hearing. It's not your cards fault that the game doesn't run smooth because my old 8600gt can run it on max with 50+ FPS at all times.

I'm fairly sure the noise is called coil whine and happens at high frame rights (>200~). It may also be because of your PSU. When I first bought my card I was forced to buy a new PSU which fixed the coil whine a LOT. The other way you can fix it is by forcing v sync on through the nvidia control panel (sadly this made no difference with my old psu).

As for Silkroad..there are 2 things I can think of. You either haven't updated your drivers for the card or you have the shadows on (they're 'broken' for silkroad).

For drivers go to nvidia.com and find them.

SRO will run with 256mb of ram and 32mb onboard, i have done it in VMware on virtual machine, takes like 2mins to load when teleporting though. But running and playing smoothly are 2 different things :)

I have 4g ram. intel duo 2.00. DFI motherboard. 250g hard. antec 900 case. I just played crysis. Its really nice. i played on ultra setting without even twitch. i think silkroad required tremendous amount of ram to play it on high settings flawless.
Tnx for the support guys.

As stated before the only setting you cannot play with is the shadows, regardless of the ram you have. Everything else can be maxed out with a fairly old gfx card.

The bloom effect killed around 20fps on my old 7950gt... but it looks so nice that it was an even tradeoff
