America has become the posterboy for Western Wastefulness and while it deserves bashing and is an easy target, it should be remembered that it's humanity, not exclusive to America, at fault. If another group of people were put into the same living standards as most Americans' enjoy today, it would yield no difference in spending and superficiality.

As for Abu Ghraib, we don't even need to transpose another society to America to know that Bureaucracies and Armies cover up atrocities--of course and again, since the U.S. likes to be the world police we are the biggest hypocrites.
