Let me ramble on a bit, and then perhaps the MOD can collate the technical data later, and create a sticky. There seems to be a lot of hardware and software problems that surface, and perhaps there should be a faster reference for all of this without everyone posting their problems, or searching. Something of a guide.
I'm wrapping this up to:
WHAT IS THE OPTIMAL HARDWARE SETUP FOR SRO?
I think it is a DELL Optiplex 755 or higher with the following:
MOTHERBOARD (MOBO)
At least: Intel Core Duo 2Ghz 2GB Ram
GRAPHICS CARD
At least:
Standard Graphics Card, 256VRAM
HARD DISK or DASD or Storage Device
At least: 40GB IDE
What Operating System is Optimal for SRO?
Windows XP or Windows Vista
I have read enough of the posts here to notice that there are quite a lot of forum members who are technically competent, and can more or less elucidate or show what is the minimal and optimal requirements where we can run SRO without any problems, (including those who work at JoyMax and also view this forum. Can those mentioned guide us to a more comprehensive guide? I would love to be corrected, as I shall be buying two PCs later on simply because I want to play SRO on a somewhat faster, better setting.
Corollary to this, would an Asus MOBO be better and cheaper?

Re: The Best Hardware and Software environment for SRO
a duo core to play sro? 2gb ram? 40gb hard drive? i think your outta your mind. sro runs fine on anything that can run XP. (when i say fine, i mean it can run, i don't know about running good or anything for that matter)
but w/e if your buying a new pc, go big or go home.

Re: The Best Hardware and Software environment for SRO
I know it runs. I am very much aware of that. Even if it runs like crap. Also, It doesn't run on certain graphics cards(experience at an Internet Cafe).
What would be the cheapest, yet best Hardware environment?
What would be the optimal Hardware environment, where every SRO setting can be toggled, yet there is no problem(except for the Internet Connection)?
You recommended to go sky is the limit, but is there no problem if I go Quad Core, and Vista is installed? I already have seen posts here where SRO did not run properly on Vista, with 4GBRAM. He had one of the better MOBOs with Celeron.

Silkroad hardware,
I run silkroad on an pc with dual core amd 2.0 ghz, 2 gbs ram, 250 gb hard drive at 5400 rpms, and an undedicated video card total of 668 mb of graphic memory available- I have Vista Home Premium
With this hardware, I can run silkroad on 1280 by 800 at low settings and get about 15 fps
It is a little choppy, but not bad
I have also played silkroad on a friend's computer that had a core 2 duo 2.4 ghz, 3 gbs ram, 160 gb hard drive at 5400 rpms and a dedicated video card a Nvidia 8400 GS with 256 mb dedicated graphics memory.- Vista Home Premium
He was able to play the game on 1280 by 1024 at almost maxed setting with a frame rate of like 20 fps
From these two experiences, I find that the hard drive doesn't matter as long as it runs at 5400+ rpm. However, I recommend getting a Core 2 Duo processor that runs at least at 2.4 Ghz, also a newer Nvidia graphics card with 256+ mb of dedicated memory would be good, and at least 3 gbs of ram
Here is a link to a cheap but good computer with these components or better,
it should run silkroad at high settings unless you are on a computer with a really high res monitor
Make sure you choose and OS, xp or vista will be good with silkroad
If you want to splurge, check out more expensive computers on this site, but this is the minimum to play on higher settings at a 1280 by 1024 res

why would you buy a rig like that? those frames sound horrible, i get capped at 60 with:
a 2.53ghz duo core, 640mb 8800gts, 7200rpm HD, 2gb ram, and XP. you such have like 4gb ram for vista dude.

Re: The Best Hardware and Software environment for SRO
Okay, So let me get this straight. SRO runs the best at Intel Core Duo, 2.53 Ghz, and must have an HD that has 5400RPM or higher, and since this specs most probably would have OEM Vista Installed, it should have at least 4GB Ram. The Graphics card should be NVidia, and should have at least 256 Video RAM. The Graphics is maxed at Vista without hitches(The way I understand it).
Thanks guys, I'll keep these in mind.
Hmmm... How long before I have to upgrade? I remember SRO ran smoothly two years ago on Windows XP with 512 RAM.

Re: The Best Hardware and Software environment for SRO
If you want to run Silkroad on High quality with 30+ FPS, just make sure you have:
2.4ghz or more duel core
Any card from Nvidia 8 series which has minimum 512mb space. (Everything apart from the 8400 is good)
2gb or more memory
If you want to run Silkroad on any other setting then any other crappy computer should be able to handle it...
