how long do laptops last?
already have a desktop, bought a laptop for school 3 months ago. i still like to open up a stall (for sro) on my desktop, but my dad has been bugging me to do my gaming on my laptop.
how long do laptops, perferablyt an Asus which i have, last? i dont want to wear out my laptop components if laptops don't last that long.
my laptop is kinda like another desktop. which i put on a desktop in my room, brought it to school when i first got it, but then i didn't find it useful in class, switched back to good old pen and paper

Re: how long do laptops last?
i think most laptops over heat but to solve that problem just go buy a booster iner cooling fan .....

Re: how long do laptops last?
Quick google told me it really depends on what laptop and what type of cooling you have as heat is one of the major factors in this case since everything is so compact. Try googling your type of laptop for some answers.

if you have a fan just leave a fan on blowing on your laptop that could work

Re: how long do laptops last?
They last depending on how you use it. Other than that, the laptop make/quality determine how long they last.
Treat it well, use it with respect. Laptops should be lasting you at least 5 years until you break it/lose it/get bored with it and want to replace it.

so in theory, if you removed the case and blow a fan straight at it, it would be okay

Wtf..most if not all computers will auto shut down if the temperatures are to high. I failed to seat my heat sink properly shooting CPU temps to 80+ and it eventually auto shutdown to prevent damage..Even my 10 y/o pc auto shut down when temps were to high -_-
user wrote:so in theory, if you removed the case and blow a fan straight at it, it would be okay
I tried that on my PC and the temps went UP due to terrible air flow. Having a good intake/outtake and flow are required.

You can set it to trip at different temperatures, in the bios. By default it's usually around 70-90C IIRC. But you're right, it's a standard setting that's already set. And normally, people who will fool around with that kind of thing, are people who are aware of overheating and don't let it happen.

Just make sure the "fan gates" (dunno the exact word) have enough room, so there are no papers lying around there or something :p

The fan is in the green area under the laptop itself, I think this is very stupid thats why I putted a little block under it here;

I've tested it, and I think it works perfect,

+1 thats a good idea becuase if you put somthing under the laptop to raise the fans of the ground abit that would increase air intake and no overheat
i think the problem is solved now

here is the problem, you burn the components out. what if normal usage is 7 years, but intense usage will only 4 years?
what are your specs guys? mine is
cpu: duo t5750
display: 15.4"
hd: 250g
ram: 3gb
graphics: geforcee 9500m gs
os: vista
price? 1200 CDN

Re: how long do laptops last?
pushing sro will be considered intense gaming, normal usage will be word processing
