and yes you put small shields in packs. large shields go on your back when your not useing it. a glavier cant take a shield off his back while being knocked down ON his back. its not realistic at all.

Warrior strap their shields on for easy access in battle. In order to protect themselves from surprise attack they practice shield handling in order to react and block in split seconds even in tight and awkward situations like falling from a blow from an enemy. If you want to talk about realistic, this is possible.

it's not unfair using it if the game allows. this game is full of bugs. like the one i hate most, fireshield that still works when your shields are off.

i too feel that "ability to equip shield while knocked down" should be a bug that should get fixed, along with tonnes of others.

just btw...who said that switching to shield is a bug? the ppl...joymax got about 2 years time to fix that bug, but haven`t fixed it yet? for me it`s no bug. so my suggestion is:

1. deal with it
2. spam joymax with bugreports
3. quit the game if you can`t deal with it.

That's just one among the examples. No one force anyone to carry a shield on the back, it could be in front. He could also grabs a random shield on the ground, or anything, a piece of wood, to use as shield.
What i'm trying to say is shield could be anything with symbolic meaning, it doesn't need to be a piece of metal. Take off a helmet or your armor to use as shield, etc...
Moreover, event "being able to block an attack while laying on the ground" exists in real life. So using a shield to block is just a symbolic event. And JM is not thus stupid to implement event "take smt from the inventory" or "turn around" or "take a piece of wood on the ground to block", don't you think so?

I think it's a exellent tactic. The GM's allow it, so then it's fair. Many examples can be use and both sides of this argument have valid points but i think we should just agree that it's fair. Even if we all agree it's unfair, Gaymax isn't going to stop it. And neither are the other players. It's going to keep happening. Nothing is 'fair'. You can't always get your way.

I fought a blader that was a lvl higher then me on my 2h warrior. I never used the shield trick until then when he kept kd'ing me and stabbing me to death, I kept kding him and bashing him to death, almost a draw until once, JUST ONCE, I switched to my 1h sword and shield after I got knocked down and he starts whining about how I'm such a noob for using a "cheap" trick. Well I never actually blocked while down, but he did like 3 times in a row.

If you wanna play like that how about all Chinese max out their pot delay? Shields are shields, most likely the person who has the shield and its not part of their build has a pretty shitty shield [srsly, doubt they'll spend alot on it]

The game is TOTALY fair, if there was only one way to fight we'd all be mindless morons pressing the number keys randomly while staring at our monitors.


EDIT: AND OMG!! ITS A GAME FOR HEAVENS SAKE! They put very little "reality" in it, your lucky you even get human characters. Do what you can with the game to be the best, if it was about realism strategies would be completely different, you can actually sword fight without wondering when a Armageddon meteor will fall on you!

Well a non warrior/ non bich user will not have the br passives so its not that super unfair, cause they can only block as much as their shield br has. Where as a warrior/ bich has higher chance plus warrior gets crit reduce and defense increase passive beyond just the shield.

if you are a 2 hand weapon holder, u normally have more dmg than a 1 hand weapon holder with a shield. This thread is 3 pages long not 8.

why is it you can't block with a spear/glaive or bow? by all means, lower block rates with spear/glaive or reduced durability for bow. just a thought ...
