Studying problems?
Hey guys.. So before go and talk to my class teacher, I wanted to ask your opinion about the problem... Well I`m now in 9th grade.. Till 9th grade I had good grades... Mostly 80-85+ I`ve never studied to any exam those years and still I got good grades.. But this year, I got 4 fails alredy... But I`ve studied about 2-3+ hours for those exams.. When it comes to home work, or projects, I dont have a problem.. But when it comes to exams, I just can`t focus enough... Mostly I`m sure I`m right, but when I get the results, its a bad grade or a lower then I expected... So what should I do? Is there anything I can do to get better?

Re: Studying problems?
Hmm, well at my school you can get yourself some kind of coach for that. There are treatments for these kind of things.
I suggest you deal with it quick, before you go to highschool/college/university, because believe me, it will become worse. And failing at those tests will be a big problem.

Re: Studying problems?
don't try to learn longer than your concentration allows,
(by that i don't mean stop learning
)
A human learns the most if he learns for around your time: 2-3 hours..
more would just strain and the learning would decrease.
So you are on the right track concerning learning.
And concerning concentration problems:
If you have any time devouring habits, try and extinguish them to a mininum degree
(like SRO, bleh)
Try and start training your concentration every day by doing some exercises
doing this will help you increase the ability to concentrate slightly everytime.

Re: Studying problems?
You don't have to get 80~85+ to pass tests,
65% is enough already.. So don't worry that much

Re: Studying problems?
I never ever ever study for anything and still manage to pass everything with 85-100s (if your area uses that system) by simply paying attention in class...
Yes I know college is going to be different.
Yes I know that my public school district's curriculum may be too cheap and too easy.
And tests? It's just another worksheet that you have to complete for that class. I don't see why people make such a big deal about exams, just the fact that it will be worth more percentage that the normal everyday grade...

Re: Studying problems?
your probably nervous, in grade 8 they made high school sound like a harsh place and there was to be no seconds chances or nothing but they were totally wrong on that one, i don't study neither and i get about 70-80-90% on tests(except law).

Re: Studying problems?
My music teacher once told us:
It is most efficient to have concentrated study for 20 mins then take a break and do whatever for 10mins than get back to concentrated study. But those 20mins have to be absolute concentration = no music, no phone calls, but silence in a room.
Break = check email, eat a piece of bread, browse srf etc. not playing games for 10mins. or doing some other type of concentrated work.
ya I think you're the same as me, we both have a short attention spend, our type of people get bored easily, so its best to study for short bursts of time and take a break.
but most important of all is to have discipline in your study, I think that's what matters most.
edit: typos

Re: Studying problems?
haha good job tackling this problem when you still have time.
Try to study in short bursts, because you remember what you memorize in the beginning and end of study time. So if you study for a long 2 or 3 hour period of time, chances are your gonna forget a few stuff in the middle.

Re: Studying problems?
That used to happen to me. I've overcome the "fear" by studying with some kids from my school. something thats helped me remember some "terms/vocab/phrases" were by using them on people. ex. if i had to use slut for something, i can remember that word by thinking of my ex-gf.

Re: Studying problems?
Well, I got time so I guess I will give you my personal experience. This comes from a current university student taking Health Science program and about to enter into masters.
Basically, when I was in high school I rarely studied, although I attended to all my classes, so I paid carefull attention to what my teachers said. My average was around 86%, and I only took english + all science courses + math (basically only took the courses that I needed to enter my program in my University).
Once I got to university my habits did not change but my first 5 tests went well, around 85%. However, the next 3 tests I got around 70%. So, I thought that I needed to study and so I did. I studied little by little every day and the next 2 tests, I still ended up around 70's. I still wanted more, so basically I changed the way I studied. I started to do all assignments during the day/afternoon and study ONLY at night. Studying at night was the best thing because I can fully concentrate and it is very quiet. Only downside, is that the next day you might feel tired, but once you do it a couple of times, you will just get use to it; just like me.
Anyways, my advice to you is try different ways of studying. Perhaps, use soft music to help you concentrate, study in groups, make cards with key words or even study at night (best strategy IMO).
Keep this in mind though, study for the sake of it (to get smarter in life) and do not study just to get high marks. If you just study to get high marks, you will quickly forget what you have studied and in later years, you will need that knowledge. I guarantee you that (especially if you planning to go to university --> masters/ph.d/m.sc).
Anyways, have fun studying.
