True happiness?
Well, what do you guys think would make a person truly happy? Or is it not even possible?
In my opinion, humans can never be truly happy. Humans always want more than they have, but it also causes them to develop. If humans were happy when they lived in caves, we would still be living in caves today.

Re: True happiness?
define happiness
everyone will have their own happy limits
this reminds me of the book sidartha(sp?)
searched his whole life on how to be happy and along with nirvana
he finally found it at a old age 60ish i think
mhm i feel liek reading that book again
everyone will have their own happy limits

Re: True happiness?
There's no such thing has true happiness. Now if one has joy they have the ultimate source of happiness. Happiness is a fleeting emotion while true joy is ever lasting.

Siddhartha was not searching for happiness. He wasn't really searching for anything he just felt the need to do more with his life. Do not confuse happiness with nirvana. They can sometimes be the same things but in most cases they are not thats what Siddhartha ended up finding out...

Re: True happiness?
There is no true happiness nor false happiness.
"happiness" is just a word created by humans. If humans themself cant define properly what is "happiness", how it happens, when it happens; there is no need to know what is the true or false happiness.
Whenever you are able to define it properly, it's in that condition that you could reach the true happiness.

Its not complicated. Thats like saying theres no such thing as sadness. Happiness is an emotion of course their is true happiness and false happiness, its an individual experience but it exist....

There is no true or false, if a false happiness cant reach a certain condition to be happiness, you cant call it happiness. An emotion cannot be judged true or false, if someone is in joy, he is in joy, else he isnt. When it comes to deal with feelings, smt immaterial related, the meaning of true or false is flawed. No one could define better what is true, what is false.
I'm sure you cant give an exemple of false happiness, simply because it wasn't happiness from the beginning.

Re: True happiness?
false happiness is a facade of happiness. Those ppl who in public put on pretty faces but at home they cry themselves to sleep. I can see what you mean on a technical level but if a person puts on a front of happiness and perhaps truly feels that they are happy when in reality they are anything but you would say they are living a state a false happiness. A person is capable of lying to themselves, to honestly believe something that is false because to them it is a truth. perspective must be taken into account. An outsider looking in may see their happiness and also their sadness and say they are living in a state of false happiness, the person them self may say they are happy. see what i mean

Re: True happiness?
Erm happiness come from within. I don't need anybody or anything to make me happy. Just like everything else comes from within. Meditation teaches you that.

Re: True happiness?
I think their is different types of happiness. A person can be happy about a certain thing for a certain period of time. I can be happy about getting a new car, but i can be mad about not being able to drive it. You can't just stick with one emotion.

Re: True happiness?
Ignorance causes happiness, the less you know the happier you are. That's why small children are so content with so little (unless they had something and then it was taken away).
So being stupid actually does have its benefits.

lol, people were happy back then with the caves, its just that new technologies and ideals thrived people to live differently.
Remember that there are some with real happiness, they never really thought of changing that lifestyle, but there are others out there that does.
Change is constant.
If you don't adapt, you'll surely not survive.

Re: True happiness?
One's true happiness is found on the bottom of a glass of Alcohol.
Sometimes you just gotta keep drinking till you've found the right glass.

Re: True happiness?
Happiness can be described with the fulfillment of certain needs.
If someone feels the need to go to the bathroom,
if he manages to find one before he unwillingly empties his bladder in on the floor,
he is content..
for a moment..
but like some of you already said: humans evolve, more needs develop: not ultimate happiness
