Other than that YES I agree with you said in your last post. Other than that negative aspect the positive is the additional income which will be used to help reduce our massive debt *hopefully*

do you honestly think businesses are going to lay people off couse of a 3% tax increase.... if you have being paying attention people are loosing their jobs couse of the weak middle class and the huge blow they have taken

money comes from sales no tax breaks. no costumers = no profit = tax breaks become useless and that doesnt really look good but strong middle class = lots of business = wealth, does.

I will answer all questions about Obama and his policies to the best of my ability in a private msg or another thread.

Back on topic:
Morgoth wrote:i don't think that prop 8 eliminates rights since according to the Constitution of California, those joined in a civil union still get rights (this includes homosexuals). what prop 8 is doing is essentially defining the term "marriage" as a ceremony only between heterosexual couples without taking away rights

Yeah I think you're right. But what I've heard about this from my gay friend is that there were some legal issues a few years ago that officially nullified her marriage or something, and if she didn't get re-married before Prop 8 passed she could lose the rights to her kids. I think its absolutely f*cked up to even consider something as monstrous as that, let alone telling unmarried couples that they can't get married. The prospect of people losing their kids sickens me. I really hope they put the same proposition up again so we can crush it when everyone is focusing on it rather than the election.

Doppleganger wrote:Yea this shit sucks. Prop 8 passing was a step backwards. This vote is a temporary defeat in the long march toward equal rights for all citizens in America. Amazing how long its taking for all of us to be equal. What part of California do you live in Iguana?

You guys are way the hell off topic lol

Agreed. I live in the Bay Area.

Edit: If anyone hears of any movement to put up a counter-proposition to prop 8 or to put it back up so it can be defeated, please tell me. Thanks.

I have no idea why anyone is talking about Obama's policies, he has yet to even creat a legistration nor is he entitled to do anything he said. If were assuming then that's alright.

I'm not surprised at all. Rather, I would be surprised if it did not pass.

I think its wrong to prohibit people stuff just because they are different. If 2 gay people wanna get married, who are you to say they can't... its not like they bother u with it right? Or are people afraid they might have a better marriage than themselves or wot? :?

lol won't we all :roll:0
yes, raises taxes for people making $250,000.

Btw the businesses getting taxed that make products will raise the cost of their products to help balance out the higher tax demands on them. Not to mention big and small businesses may have to lay off some ppl which does raise unemployment rate. So yes it will affect you even if you arn't getting directly taxed, you will feel it indirectly.

As for proposition 8, idk what to say about that...

Obama only plans to restore the taxes of the pre-bush era...

its mostly religious people that see marriage as between a man and a women and nothing else. that and people that are just homophobic, but this law shouldnt last long, either next election it will likely go up again and change or something like that.

Same sex couples can still get married. They have been doing it for ages and will continue to do it. I have several same sex friends who have gotten married. If it were simply the idea of two people making a lifetime vow to each other, that hasn't been taken away. The getting married part isn't the issue, the problem is getting the government recognize that marriage.

The purpose of having the government recognize marriage is to receive the "benefits" of marriage enforceable in the law. This is a double edged sword. There are some areas where married couples have default rights that benefit each other, such as inheritance. There are other areas where its actually better to not be married, such as eligibility for needs-based government assistance. While the benefits of marriage on the whole probably outweigh the alternative, this is not an absolute and there are many same sex couples who would be financially harmed if they were to get married. Be careful what you wish for is an appropriate maxim.

Also, many states that recognize civil unions and provide benefits for those registered couples have their own DOMAs. If you got married in Massachusetts, for example, and moved to Washington, your marriage would not be recognized. If you entered into a civil union in California and moved to Washington, your civil union would be recognized. So in many ways, you are much better protected having a civil union than a marriage.

None of this is meant to advocate either side of same sex marriage. It's simply meant to add some context to issues being discussed.

But about eliminating capital gains on small businesses...can someone explain this to me? Capital gains are the increase in equity on an asset and are only triggered upon sale of that asset. Small businesses are rarely bought and sold; they are simply run by the owner usually for the duration of his life. I don't see how reducing or eliminating capital gains taxes on small business will have any impact whatsoever. Arguing that it will promote innovation strikes me as utterly absurd. But maybe I'm missing something. Please explain.

tax is different depending on your marital status, how much you make, how many kids you have, etc.

People should stop using categories. There are no gay rights, women's rights, minority rights, male rights [etc]. There are only Human rights and until we all realize that truth the world is fucked in the ass.

On the topic of taxes: How about no federal income tax?

Once they get rid of tax cuts for married couples (separation of church and state f*ck yeah) the only people that will be allowed to give a shit are religious people. Then we won't have to see bans on gay marriage put out by the government.

You should "stfu" because you have poor grammar. I can't believe the morons that post on these forums telling others to fu ck off and shut the fu ck up when they can't type English themselves. How is anyone to take your opinion seriously...

I am disapointed that prop8 was passed as we are all human beings, we already have enough hate in the world, and I think anything that can bring people closer is the best thing to do.

You're the one who comes in here and starts flipping shit about some miss spellings and your'e saying he has a bad attitude. You missed my point. If you read my original post, he told another member to stfu because he apparently doesn't have the facts straight. So I replied stating that he should use proper grammar if he wants to be taken seriously.

Then now you and the kid replied criticizing me.
