We are doing project at school for the USA Presidental Election 2008 and one of the questions, I cant really understand or find anything related to it.

"What artists have been involved in this election? On whose side? Why do you think artists get involved in politics and the election? "

And...

What connection does the President have to the military?

Anyone that can answer this questions?

Could it possibly have to do with the way media (the artists in this case) manipulate the audience (you and I) into voting for what they would consider the best option for power?

I.e. Only showing bad sides of Obama, yet only showing the goodies about McCain, therefore we as the audience are left to assume McCain is the better of the two?

What I wrote may seem slightly offtrack, but artists to those funny cartoons which Artists do about governments etc is sort of similar. Making fun of one, but not the other, and highlighting their bad points?

My impression after reading that was it meant musical artists, actors, people who get a lot of media attention, etc. They get involved in politics because they think people care about what they say since they're in the public eye all the time. Or something like that.

Seriously though... assuming I'm correct, celebrities get involved because they know they will get some sort of airtime/youtube video dedicated to their endorsement. It's a lot more appealing to many younger voters to watch a familiar face talk about the election rather than a panel of older men on CNN.
