New Headphones

Post by Rainigul »

Since getting my iPod back in late '05, I've torn through 4 pairs of earphones (though to be fair, my 3rd pair had an untimely death, my brother broke them). Below is my review of them all, read if you'd like:

Spoiler!

Anyways, what are some nice earphones that don't cost more than like 40 bucks (unless there are some awesome 45 dollar ones or something)? They need to sound good, be comfortable, and be durable.
Thanks alot, cheers.

Anything not made in china but thats pretty hard to come by these days. Just remember to get earphones from a reputed brand and you should be good to go. Really, just go to best buy or radioshack or somethin, you should not be considering earphones over 30 bucks.

I don't know about earphones but people on HardForum are saying that the JVC RX700's (Headphones) are close to A900's in quality and they are only $33.

You will not regret it.

Apple Earphones all the way. However, I like this nice pair I got from Toys'R'Us in Times Square, they're some Sony Earphone.

I know, hate the apple earbuds. Sounds perfect. But the rubber band thing, keeps breaking off.

These are the headphones i used for a few years straight, $5 a pair from a mates dad. I don't know if TDK makes them anymore but they are a great pair of cheap headphones. The ear-clip design is incredibly handy and the volume control is a god sent.

EDIT: The link is actually wrong, this model doesn't seem to have the volume control feature >_>
Though if you can live without that then this is a nice choice.

Why are you so interested in sound if you are wanting EARPHONES ?

Sound = HEADPHONES.

Also, currently have for SOUND the Sennheiser HD-415. And for mobility some random 20€ JVC earphones.

For home. I have the Seinheisser HD210. And for on the go, I have the Zune Premium Headphones. I had 40$ amazon gift vouchers so I got them. But they really are the best pair of headphones I've ever had. They are similar to Azilius'

I bought my headphones from Radioshack for $20 almost a year ago and they still work perfectly despite the fact that I use them all the time on max volume, toss them around, and stuff them inside my bag everyday.

The brand says Radioshack but it was made by KOSS.

Ehhh I used to agree until I got mine mentioned above, they have amazing quality and noise cancellation. I was leaning toward buying headphones but the earphones are so much more convenient, not to mention the price was great.

I also recommend skullcandy. They definitely had the best sound I've had out of any and stayed in my ears really nice, even on a run. The best IMO, INK'D Was replaced by the more expensive Titan and Houla though... If you can find some INK'D ones by skullcandy they are only 20$ and really good, best buy has them.

These look nice, but I have one question, what is impedence? Because this has 16, but normal ipod earphones have 32. I would have liked to compare them to the zune premium headphones, I was thinking about buying some, but I don't know how good they are. Soda, you say they're good, and I believe you, but they're twice as expensive as these, which are potentially just as good. I'd like to compare them on the site, but it seems that bestbuy doesn't sell zune premium earphones.

Quick google tells me impedance won't affect normal listening in any way.

thanks ;). Also, according to my quick research, ink'd earphones are the way to go,

Ink'd: Frequency Response 20Hz-20kHz

Zune: Response Bandwidth 20Hz-15,000Hz

Now unless I'm mistaken, Ink'd beats zune's premium headphones by 5k there, in fact, if my sources are right (which they should be, bestbuy website and radioshack website), ordinary ipod earphones are better than zune premiums

Dont cut cheap on headphones, i had about 4 pairs of stock ipod ears in a year ( that 90 euros ) so i bought a pair of sennheiser CX500's and they rock ( 60-80 ).
If you're on a budget you might wanna look at the cx300 or cx400 they're good

I don't want to get too expensive ones, because they'll break within 6 months. So why spend too much money? When I said 40 dollars, that was like my total max, I was thinking more like below 30, preferably 25 or less.

I bought the Zune headphones because they went with my Zune. I've probably found them to be the best I've ever had because of their style (the kinda...in ear...rounded rubber...type...thing) that gives amazing bass, and blocks out any unwanted noise.

If you can find some that are similar and cost less then maybe that's the way to go. But I've always said to myself after these Zune headphones break, that the next pair I'll get will have the old style of headphone wire to jack thing. See images below. Just because when I wrap them around my zune and stick it in my pocket, it puts alot of stress on it, while the other its made to bend. Anyway. Thats just me. If I were you I'd try to find one with that sort of connection, even if it doesn't look as cool, it will make it last a lot longer.

Good luck.

Just got some skullcandy Ink'd's, and I am not dissappointed, these things kicked ass, first thing I noticed when I put them in my ears was that everything around me went down to about 30% of how loud they usually were, and as soon as I turned on my music, it sounded great and I couldn't hear anything else, they were only 17 bucks too, and they look nice :)

@Soda, yeah, I also noticed the bending ones last longer, but the ink'd's have a straight connection, but I'll take good care of them ;)

Thanks for your help everyone :)

[EDIT:] I'd like to note to everyone who mentioned Sennheiser's that you have good taste :) I know they kick ass, but they only make headphones, and I know headphones are good, but I'd only wear them at home, and at home I'll usually just blast the music out loud

Sennheiser CX300 or CX500.

No need to blast them up loud because of the noise isolation. Don't wanna go deaf early...

Mine didn't mess up until after about 3 years. I played sports in them though, so thats to be expected.

Edit: Didn't notice your last post...
