Re: Apple's iPod VS Microsoft's Zune VS Sony's Walkman
I think the only ipod the zune compares to is the touch. Storage space or price, are not the only means for comparison.
Theyre all luxury goods, which means, buy them if you want to and have the money, or get something else which costs less, if you cant wait.
Keeping the Touch in mind:
It has Wifi, So you actually can share song with friends as well.
Other then games, the touch has TONS of usefull applications.
The touch has wifi, and a standard Itunes application which ALSO lets you connect to the store. Wireless that is.
And playing WMA, well, should you load a WMA file into itunes, it automatically converts that file to an ipod supported format. Which take like no time. So that's not a key feature anymore.
About wireless sync, i dont know, i think it can, as i can use it as a remote for my laptop etc. I'll look into it.
-------------------------------------------------------
Anyways, i'd compair it to a touch, allthough less functional.
It's really meant to compete with the Ipod nano's and chromatics of these days. That's what the Zune is built for.
And the 120GB version, well even MS compares it to the classic, but imo the classic is a to outdated concept to really compare.

Re: Apple's iPod VS Microsoft's Zune VS Sony's Walkman
Are there 'big' versions of the Chromatics? Or just the nano version?
Oh and by the way.
You argument is a silly one.
I'll agree that, one for one, an iTouch probably has more features than a Zune. But the Zune was never designed or is marketed as a 'smart phone' (without the phone feature) as they are called. It is also impossible to compare due to their price difference.
All my music wouldn't fit on a touch, and I would never pay 400$ for an mp3 player. So to me, it makes it quite useless.

How does a price factor make any difference in comparing products, other then on your own behalf. Whether or not you can pay for it, does only matter when you're compairing them for yourself. I'm under the impression that we're talking specs n mechanical stuff here, not preference.
Anyways, i could've deleted the touch comparison paragraph in my last post, as it wasn't really functional anymore when i was done typing. Meh, but i never edit.
Looking at aim, and different technology incorporated in the Zune, the classic is really not the thing to compare it with. And never will be. Well, maybe only looking at storage space.
The nano/chromatic is more like it. And the Zune is actually ahead of that. Though that wont be long. They'll figure something out.

I would definetly say that the Sony Walkman is the best out of the 3, just because personally I think that iPods are more a fashion accesory rather than a top notch mp3 player

You don't get it do you?
iPod Touch = Multifuctional Thingy Majig Doo Dah
Zune = MP3 Player.
You can't compare them.

+1, also, priam you have little idea of what you're talking about. On an ipod touch, I am 99% sure you cannot share music with your friends (unless you like email something as an attachment, which I don't think you can, and if you could, it would take forever to send),a nd you can NOT wirelessly sync.
Also, as Soda said, itouch and zune are not even in the same class, it is indeed like comparing a car to a toaster, an dyes, itouch is better in almost every way (though zune still has several features itouch doesn't, and the itouch has less memory).
Zunes were invented to compete with the ipod classic, and the 3G ipod nano, that's why their prices are the same, and they have the same amount of storage, they were not meant to compete with the nano-chrome, that was actually a retaliation by apple, you can tell by their revertion to original shape and the elongated screen.
Also, what are you saying it's better in the long run or whatever, how you said about innovation? That makes no sense. Apple comes out with a new ipod several times a year, so people ahve to keep buying them to stay in the "in-crowd", however, zune was created so there is none of that BS, all of the zune updates are backwards compatable, if you have a zune 30, it's the same as someone who has a zune 120 today, except for the storage amount and design, the rest is the exact same.
Zune beats normal ipods in pretty much every way, I can't think of one way ipod beats zune right now. The only real reason someone should buy an ipod over a zune is if they bought all of their stuff off itunes, because if they then got a zune, the stuff wouldn't work anymore, or they're hardcore apple fans.
Though once again, as I've said, an iPod Touch is better than a Zune, iTouch=car, Zune=toaster. Though keep in mind, though you can drive in cars, you can make toast with toasters.

Re: Apple's iPod VS Microsoft's Zune VS Sony's Walkman
The Zune definitely has more features than a classic iPod but before choosing either one of them you should really try them out.
I had a Zune a while back which I eventually ended up returning and buying an iPod. (I have a Touch now though). I bought the Zune to replace my old iPod and everything was going great until I found out I couldn't use the hard drive as storage for my files like I had on my iPod which was a major step backwards for me. Everything else was good though. Sharing music wirelessly is a POTENTIALLY good feature, but it only works between Zunes and as of today I know 0 people who own a Zune lol. And even then, I think you can only play the borrowed song 3 times or something. The Zune's UI is way nicer than the iPod's though =]

Re: Apple's iPod VS Microsoft's Zune VS Sony's Walkman
@Rainigul -> I've had the touch for half a year now, i'm pretty sure i know what i'm talking about. The car/toaster thing was cute though. Like i said. It doesn't have specific named functionalities, but possible is possible. Even in a slow lame kind of way. Plus, You share Your entire itunes library with anyone connected to the same network as you. Sure, u'd have to use itunes, but when's the last time you ever shared a song with anything else then your mobile phone at the bus-stop. Could come in handy in friend situations, but they'd need the zune. Doesnt matter anyway, we reverted the arguement to chromatic/classic, rather then touch.
@Soda. You don't seem to get my point. I don't see the Zune as JUST an MP3 player. They ruined that by adding multiple functionality's that put it nearly on par with the touch. <- figure of speech.
So comparing it with a classic, seems a bit unfair. to the classic that is.

Re: Apple's iPod VS Microsoft's Zune VS Sony's Walkman
Well if you think the Zune is almost on par with a piece of equipment that is almost 150$ more expensive than it. Then my work here is done
Just shows the Zune does in fact OWN.
I had actually totally forgotten about the HD capabilities of iPod. You can use your Zune has an external HD. But it's very fiddly and really not worth it. Thats probably one of the things iPod classics have going for them at the moment.
But amirite in thinking iPod Touch cannot do that either? :S

Nope. The touch cannot (without HUGE diffuculty's) act as an external HD.
In fact, i've only done it with my nano, on a Windows PC, since windows detects it as a seperate disk.

I can see it not really mattering with a 32gb HD. But with the new zunes 120, its quite a big loss not being able to use it. I'm still on the 30 though. Really regretting not upgrading to the 80/120 before I left the US. Hmm maybe I could convince my dad to buy me one from there for christmas

I'll have to correct you on the last point. There is an application available in the app store which makes it possible to put files onto your iPod Touch. It works like an FTP server. Go to iTunes and type in Air Sharing.

@Priam
Can it really share stuff with other itouches wirelessly? I didn't think it could (without the use of modifying it or whatever).
And yeah, that's the thing that the classic has going for it, external harddrive... Now I'm not sure here, but I think you might be able to make the zune into one, just show hidden files and folders and open up where the zune files are stored, which should be removable disk [X], then when in there, just make a new folder... Of course, I'm not sure about this because I myself don't own a zune, but I can hardly imagine why that wouldn't work.

I have 8G iPod Nano. It works for me. I don't need to connect to my computer wirelessly, or share music with my friends who also don't have Zunes, or pay for music, or use shitty .wma's or have a shitty battery life. BTW my iPod has radio on it so IDK what was up with that comparison chart and IDK what Customizable is other than probably those dumb pictures you can get etched into your Zune.

Will be getting a Zune this week. Already have 333 songs on the "Zune Program." Wish me luck! (will be getting the 120

I'm a little disappointed that they don't include the nice earphones anymore.
