So can anyone show me a link to a site like Wal-Mart, Best buy or any other Store to Find a Good External Hard drive? I've been using my Brother's Laptop while he is over seas, and I got carried away with my Junk lol. I have too much time and effort into all of it and he only has a lil over 7 Gigs left. Heres What I'd prefer.
Because I'd like to be able to move it around a lot more freely and Most Internal are either Laptop or Desktop only. I'd prefer one for both and I know there are a lot more Options with External

500gb external here is like 75 euro. 1tb internal is less than 100 euro, case like 10 euro so you could basically get a 1tb external for 110
Well With my luck anyway. So far 3 of the Internals I've bought in the past didn't work on both mostly because They are very Different Brand's (The Computers) >.< I thought about a 1TB one but Wouldn't that make it load even slower? I want one that's also not too loud as well which is why I asked here for good ones because the internet isn't as good as experienced Opinions
Ooh, he wants opinions. I've got a W(estern)D(igital) Passport 250GB. Had it for around 5 months, never had any issues with it. Usual stays plugged into my usb hub, so its 'powered on' most of the time. There's a 320gb version, not sure if it would be big enough for you anyway.
Cost me 95$ at the time, probably a bit less now.
Anything bigger than 320gb I think you'd have to have an external majig that needs a power supply.
hmm I prolly don't need anything too big and 500 is too high most likely. I don't anything that eats a lot of power either. I think I'll check those ones out thanks =]

I live in Oregon, USA
@Cin I've looked at a lot and they have very different Connectors. I figured maybe a Usb 2.0 External would just make it a lot simpler. But I also want one that'll let me run things from constanyly without eating too much power and without slowing anything down.
External HD will never be too great to run stuff off, just because are are limited to 480mb/s or usually slower in the case of 2.5" drives. I think I'm correct in thinking that 2.5" are usually powered soley by the USB/firewire and 3.5" are powered generally by a wall socket. Either way, they aren't great to 'run things off'. As read/write can cause a lot of heat leading to failure. If your going to be actively using it, and not just backing up, get a 3.5" and make sure it has a cooling fan as well.

sorry what
all hard drives will work with all computers, they are not limited to brand they may be limited by technical specs of your computer but thats the only thing that will effect it

ya thats what i thought too lol
Well What I mean is the Plug in is way Different. Or it doesn't recognize it or even load it.

if you can connect it it will recognise it, and they do kits to make internal HDD's external like was said above you just need a case they often come with the connections needed
if it won't recognize it, then you might have to manually do that through the hardware menu. i had to do some tricky thing with my 500gb one, not even sure how i did that exactly. but after that, it worked fine.
yeah like i said, idk exactly how i did it, i had to call the company i bought it from to install my external. the lacie was plug n play tho. and this one worked on all computers after i did that install trick.
got my 500gb year ago for £75 they have come down to £50 which tbh is easier then pratting bout with internals but i would have gone for an internal if i could be bothered
