Yes it is bad and it isn't "always the scammed" persons fault. Not everybody spends their life on video games. A newbie is not going to know that the item switch trick even exist nor did they probably even care enough about the game to think about it. At best it will make them just say screw it and find better things to do with their time. Some of these idiots as you think they are probably haven't thought of it because they are spending more time doing things intellectually stimulating and not thinking up ways to cheat people. Speaking of childish why would you even bother doing that in a game? I remember when role playing was used as a way out of reality. People would enter a fantasy world, have fun, and play together. This is the type of stuff that takes the fun out of online gaming. It isn't supposed to be drama, anger, cheating, and other such things. I guess that's what happens though when everyone is allowed to play.

Makes me thing of the days I used to play with a D&D group. None of the drama that goes on in video games and it was a fun group with people I got to know in person. Large groups of people over the internet can't be trusted to just have a good time together. There is always someone out for nothing but personal gain. If you only care about yourself then why even play a online role playing game? Just go play a solo game that requires no contact with humans. People that scam have horrible gaming etiquette and are a waste of server space.

So this is mine...
Due to some surcumstences, i know and i can unlock almost every car in less than 5 mins. So if i come and unlock and steal your car, or not steal it but get somethink that is worth it and you have forget it inside, that is still your fault? And i am right to steal it?
Scamming is not good. For leggits or botters, idk, but scamming is a part of th game and yes, if you are dumb enough you will get scammed.

Sorry mate, but comparing silkroad to real life situations is just blehh. I in no way condone 'scamming' in real life. All tho same principles. Also .. don't generalize scamming as stealing. More like .. borrowing indefinitly

What to say about the taxis? You give someone money to lvl u up and he runs away? It's still your fault? Come on....

Never have liked the idea of Taxi's. I guess it's 50/50.

I personally have been scammed once, just because i was too dumb to play around wth a scmmer :) He was changing the prisec in his stall, and i was completely aware he wants to scam me but i thought i am fatser than him. Well i wasn't :)
For me the scammers should be punished not by joymax, but by the silkroad society. Same way the booters are punished.

Eek, but botters don't get punished. I do see your 'should' there .. but taking the fact that no one really cares if someone bots anymore no one really cares if somene scams. All the hardcore scammers are still able to play silkroad without any reprecussions because people really don't give a jack fiddle.

I would also like to point out to the people that say " I would scam a bot but would never scam a legit " Hmm, explain to me how running a script makes any difference. Does it make you feel better that you scammed a person who has ' sinned ' ? Because people are people afterall.

Well yes silkroad is a game. But you meet real people there, so why not compare it to real life? I hate those "kings" if the servers, who do everything just to be the best. Not botting or everything, but the personal gain is abov all. Like never playing in party because the may lose some exp and stuff like this. I play the game because of the ppl. I don't care if my GT is running, if i could help a little lower lvl friend with my party and lose some exp because if that. Because this shows what kind of a person i am and i judge the people in the game by the way thay play and the things they do. So for me the game is really comperable to the real life. If someone is a solo player in the game, he's probably a "solo" kind of a person in real life too. So if someone is a "scammer" in game, he probably cheats or idk... does some tipes of "scams" in real life. Ofcourse that only my point of view, but that's how i see things and no one can change it.

LoL ... it's obvious and you asked.

scamming = cheating. so scammer should get punished.

scamming != theft. victim of theft unwillingly/unknowingly departed with valuable. victim of scam willingly/knowingly departed with valuable.

theft victim usually result of carelessness or lacked precaution, scam victim usually result of greed. any one of these victims is more deserving than the other? you decide.

Barbaric actions (scamming) and evolution are polar opposites. Human compassion, the ability to work together, and a drive to advance together as a race would be evolution. Polluting that race with ill will is far from evolution. If anything it's what causes many aspects of humanity to remain stagnant.

Victims of theft are not always unknowingly departed of their valuable. I think the little old lady who had her purse stolen in the street was quite aware that the theft happened.

Or maybe she is willing. Maybe she was expecting to be robbed so she could turn around and sue, etc. Kind of like how some people order a cup of McDonald's Molten Lava, spill it on their hands, and then sue.

Dude, scamming can be good. It depends on the situation.

And I totally agree with Crumpets, if you get scammed it's your own fault.

I'd have to agree with Crumpets. People who think logically won't get scammed. Only the stupid people who are willing to take a chance for w/e reason, PLvl, Money, Items, Etc., are going to get scammed. If you are stupid enough to fall for it then it will probably happen to you eventually... The world is a tough place not everything can or will be fair and not everyone will do the right thing. A fantasy world is no different. Some dumb thread isn't going to change shit and if you scam quietly I don't think anyone on SRF will ever find out anyway...

I fail to see how getting scammed defines someone as stupid. I'm sure plenty of people that have been "scammed" are much smarter than many of you. It's an error in judgment, lack of knowledge about the workings of the game, or not being familiar enough with it to even realize how the scams work. Most people have better things to do than figure out how people scam in SRO.

A fantasy world is different.

I could go to a group that plays a game not online and have a friendly and enjoyable place to play. I can dream up whatever I want in my head and make it perfect. Scammers draw people away from the games because it takes out the fun. I shouldn't have to check and make sure people aren't item switching. When I go into a store I can't "item switch scam". Doing that breaks the fantasy and brings back reality. When a game is no fun to people they don't play.

Just reading over my own post in here is making me think about not playing anymore. Not because I was scammed but I could find a better type of game to spend my time on. Things like scams, ignorance, racism, and even the globals that start drama always take a little fun out of it.

It has nothing to do with stupidity.

Generalizations don't work... Don't call everyone stupid because you disagree with me...

Obviously someone who falls for a scam isn't thinking logically. Try the "Is this too good to be true?" question if you have suspicions of someone. If it is pass whatever it is up. Even if it was true what if the next time it wasn't?

If you think item exchange is bad use a middle man both people trust or use a stall. I request stall for anything less than 1B, not like I've bought or will probably ever buy anything for over 1B anyway. Just makes sense...

I wasn't calling everyone stupid and I'm sorry if you took it that way. I was speaking my mind and it seemed logical to me that it is very likely some people that have been scammed are smarter than the people in this topic, myself included.

It wasn't meant as an insult.

It was a dumb moment for the Thread starter to ask this question and even more dumb for everyone to argue against this shit. Yeah even me included,

Scamming is wrong, go ahead scam someone's money and you will get jailed by laws of all countries. Those that are even suggesting scamming is "alright" should be kicked in the ass.

Good work Detective! I think we can officially end this thread now. I don't think it's alright, I just don't give a shit. Just don't fall for it and don't tell people you are doing it if you must.

I think I know what he means.

In my eyes, scamming [or skemming] can be a skill.

Like lockpicking, it is considered bad, but some people can do it well, like to do it, it takes skill and can be used when you're down and out.

Scamming [or skemming] can be like a sport, think about it as taking advantage of a situation or using different means then just bargaining to get a cheap rpice/item.

This is just for arguments sake but -

Lets say this guy killed you're mother...

Really what if this guy is a known scammer [or skemmer] and botter, you find the oppurtunity to scam [or skem] him your SoSun bow back, this guy is a complete dickhead.

I don't consider it scamming when you own the object in the first place, It's taking back what's rightfully yours at any cost.

Then why would I bother even trying to take it in the first place? I've had the opportunity (as i actually do right now logged on a friends char) to take billions of gold. The reason I don't is because I'm not that sort of person. I'd sooner be loyal to a friend than stab them in the back. Friend or not I wouldn't scam them.

I seen a friend have his 9D sun spear scammed and it was very thought how it was done. My friend with the spear (Jekku) was pvping with our old guildmaster (Staedtler) suddenly Jekku gets a PM from Staedtler asking to borrow it. Of course they are very good freinds so he accapets trade and hands it over. A minute passes and he hasn't equipped it so Jekku PM's him only to find out Staedtler hadn't asked for it in the first place it had been someone made same name and stood in safe zone with the name StaedtIer. One week later we found out it had been someone in guild who scammed it and they're PKed on a daily basis. Jekku left the game for a while but has since returned.

People who scam will stop at nothing and will trample over anyone to get what they want. In my opinion it might be a game but it reflects there personality in real life.

EDIT: I actually borrowed a sun bow 8d once at a war and the guy who borrowed me it was freaking out thinking I wouldn't give it back because we hardly knew each other. I returned it.

Scamming [or skemming] are like shares, high risk but high return.

Fair [or normal] trading are like bonds, safe but low return.

If you're good at and you don't mind repercussions, then do it, but most likely you're gonna fail.

"Eh, I'll buy your SoM, 10K?"

"YAH!"

"K"

That is just a skillful pick of demographic.

And if someone scams [or skems] you, then nice, he got you good.

Looks like someone has morals.

If you don't like scamming [or skemming] then it's not for you.

I don't do it either, I would get guilty, but you know.

I remember I got scammed [or skemmed] in another game so guy gave me some advice/comfort - "I happens to the best of us".

Don't know why but it really made me feel better, it's just a game and if you man up you can learn from it.

I kinda felt bad accepting 200k from some one that kept spamming me for a plvl, and then not partying them. They just kept spamming with exchanges and asking to join, i told them no repeativly, they exchange spamed then, and i just finaly accepted they gave me gold and i accepted, then continued killing stuff with out partying them
