Truth. Just because I'm coded for having a high intelligence doesn't mean I will be. I'm not being stripped of control. I may be extremely unmotivated and have no work ethic as a result of my upbringing and this intelligence goes to waste. I may apply my intelligence towards racism, stealing, etc. because I decide to associate with people who have warped morals. And who says intelligent, attractive people don't go through hardships that help them grow as a person? I'm pretty sure everyone does regardless of what their genes say.
Picking ideal traits already goes on to some extent. Like the article touched upon, when people look for donor eggs and sperm they pick people with qualities they value. Is that wrong?
To whoever posted this, it doesn't say that in a couple years this is going to happen. It says it
may in the future. There are so many risks and variables associated with it. One miscoded codon and you can come up with severe problems, and you can't make someone immune to all illness because you can't control their environment (as is the case with personality traits).
One more thing... whoever said we shouldn't go against the balance of nature; we already do. I don't really see the problem with people picking the eye color or athleticism of their child if they're willing to take the risks. I do think the line has to be drawn somewhere though. No genetically engineered human drone soldiers please.
