Anyone know what is the difference between

Microsoft Word

&

Microsoft Works Word Processor




Because, it seems to me that, when i send my teachers my essays, and stuff typed on my Microsoft Works Word Processor, that they cannot open the file.

I'm almost positive Word Processor is the newer version of Word. Therefore, documents created in Word Processor won't open in Word, but documents in Word can be opened in Word Processor.

There's an option in Word Processor to save a document as a "97/03" (the years of the old versions) document or something like that. If you choose that option it will be compatible with the old version of Word.

No, Microsoft Works and Microsoft Office are two different software suites. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Works for some information about Microsoft Works.

Microsoft Works is similar to Microsoft Office in that it has a word processer (Works Processor) as well as a spreadsheet and some other stuff, but it is less expensive than Office.

OT: To topic starter, your teachers can't open your documents because they are written in Microsoft Works. I haven't used Works in probably 15 years or so, but check out the "Save As..." dialog. See if there is an option to save the document as "Microsoft Word", "Microsoft Word 2003" or similar. If not, see if you can save the document as a PDF file. It will likely lose some formatting, especially if you have some embedded images and tables, but hopefully it's better than nothing.

Works and Word are different suites as PR0METHEUS said. The default save format in Works can't be opened in Word.

KOffice is only available for Linux, using KDE though - to my knowledge.

Oh and forgot to add, I use Windows XP, while they use MAC

My son has the same problem with his homework.
We save it as a ‘97 doc’ file and this works at school.
