so i installed ubuntu, love it, anyways, i need to find out how to install programs,plugins, etc.

I'm a relatively new Linux (ubuntu) user but here are the five primary ways to install software that I can think of:

1. Go to Applications > Add/Remove...
2. Go to System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager
3. Open the terminal, type 'sudo apt-get install <package_name>'
4. If available download .deb file from the software's web page. Open the .deb file and click install.
5. If the software is a tarball, (the extension is .tar.gz or some variation), you need to extract the files and compile them. Compiling usually involves running the commands './configure' -> 'make' -> 'sudo make install'.

At least someone answered the question instead of complaining :P

I like apt-get. Emerge in Gentoo is pretty nice too.
