An electoral college member is forced to vote for whatever the population of that district has voted for.

This is why politicians make such a big deal about districting because it makes it easier for either republicans or democrats to get into office.

YOUR VOTE matters, it wasn't always like this your correct. The reason someone can win the popular vote but not necessarily the election isn't because electoral college members are voting wily-nily it's because certain districts and states account for more of the electoral college votes than the actual number of the population.

It doesn't really make sense, but some states like maine and nebraska are redrawing their state constitutions to take away the "winner-take-all" nature of the college vote when it comes to where the state places their votes and is letting the districts inside the states count for whatever vote they receive (in essence it's like making more tiny states)

the point is state constitutions can rewrite how they come to the conclusion to distribute electoral college votes, the electoral college is on the national level but states have rights for apportionment, this is a living breathing thing, write to your congressmen to see change if you so desire

the point is your vote does matter, the electoral college is JUST A BODY to cast the vote of THE PEOPLE in their District.

so get out there and vote!

Hah, good man.

Well yeah i know how it works. I wouldn't have mentioned anything if i didn't.
Its just that because they do represent the majority within that state. Its hard to make an impact when one candidate takes all the votes by a land slide.

I just wanted to know, did states such as Nebraska succeed in changing their constitution to where the "winner-take-all" deal is gone?
and of course, i wouldn't encourage NOT voting.

and oh yeah, im behind obama

The electorates don't have to vote for the same candidate the population voted for. We simply give the electorates our recommendation. An electorate (or all electorates) can, and sometimes do, vote for a candidate that wasn't recommended by that state.

Say candidate X gets the popular vote of state Z but the electorates vote for candidate Y, the person who gets the state would be Y because he has more electoral votes. The founders set it up this way to prevent 100% direct democracy. They believed, and many still do, that the general public is incapable of choosing a good leader. Think of it as a buffer system.

Your "recommendation" still counts. :)

bush sucks, and mc cains idol is bush so mc cain sucks 2,, only because he has a female vice candidate he might get some votes,, thats suckie,, obama rulez 8)
