... But which 3d modeling software to get?... Anyone here know which 3d modeling software is good for newbies starting? it would be great if it has easy to follow tutorials along with the application.

Blender because it's free. 3D max, or Maya are good, but expensive if you don't know where to get it.

Solidworks is what I prefer. Though I've only really used SolidEdge and Solidworks a decent amount.
I'm in your posts, stealing your quotes.

Re: Want to try 3D Modeling...
I used 3ds max for quite a while, mostly for gta and halo mods but i was also working on my own FPS and an MMORPG with a friend, but that didnt really get off the ground. Recently i aquired maya but i havnt used it enough to compare it with 3ds max.
I used a few free 3d modelling applications like gmax (i dont think that one is available anymore but there may still be torrents floating about), blender and some other obscure program that hardly anyone has heard of and i cant remember its name :| . 3ds max was the best (and so it should be, at that price!) followed by gmax which was 3ds max's little brother.
As for tutorials, you can find them all over the internet. I used these to get me started with 3ds max (they are related to halo ce but the 3ds max ones can be applied to modelling in general) but the rest of it i just learnt by trial and error. (that site is pretty old, i was suprised it was still there, not sure if all the links still work)

Re: Want to try 3D Modeling...
Since it's the most suggested application.. I'll be borrowing 3DS MAX from my brother since he's an architect.
@ John_Doe
Idk, I'm just very curious and interested on it. Might help if I go back to warcraft 3 modding or if I would have this type of class on college... and I think it's better to spend free time doing something productive than surfing/sleeping.
@ Innovacious
GMAX, is also what the Wacraft 3 modding forum I used to go to suggested to me.
Thanks for the replies guys.

by pure 3d moddling standards maya is the best but both maya and 3d max are owned by the same company so in a few years we'll be seeing both of these great programs merged together

i still prefer solidworks :]
i use it a lot for my study/job.
it's fairly easy to learn imo, i learned most
of the program in my spare time.

Re: Want to try 3D Modeling...
autocad is not so much for casual moddling iv used it and its better applied to houses and cars things with a exact dimension as you plot each point to make it easier to moddle
