Also saw the 1972 Munich Olympics with Spitz.
My son was watching and he didn't know who I was talking about.
I didn't mention the tragedy of '72
- 2 dead, 9 hostages taken and later killed.![]()
It's strange how memory triggers work; seeing his records broken has made me both happy and silently sad.
Really enjoyed seeing him again in the interview after, Spitz is such a diplomat.
I can imagine how Phelps must have felt as he accepted praise from his hero.
Phelps said, "I'm at a loss for words, like I was when I saw the clock."

I find it sad/stupid that Spitz wasn't even invited to the Olympics to watch his record shattered. On top of the Phelps is too arrogant to take the opportunity to get advice and/or reminisce with Spitz.
