Because a built-in BitTorrent client, mail client, etc. are completely weightless while add-ons are both forced and overweight, rite?

Not necessarily. Opera's widgets can get pretty demanding; specially if the user is running more than one at a time. As far as my vision extends, I have been able to see that Firefox(specially with add-ons) is more demanding than Opera(with widgets, or buit in features) that do basically the same thing.
