Shinkai is not an artist but an animator.

Animators are artists themselves. But whatever. I can't attribute one artwork to just one person.

I gots it nao k? T__T

Another good artwork is Death Note (I know, it's stronger under a soundtrack category). It's not as good as any other ones mentioned but the way the anime looked was pretty good. It really captured the dark tone of the manga.

It pushed it further. Reading a manga, you only get still images on ink, and sometimes with a full-color spread. After that, it relies on your imagination's limits.

The anime was beyond my expectations. (... though I still hate the change in the end >.>)

I actually like Death Note manga because it's in black and white, it fits the story I think. I thought the anime itself wasn't adapted properly, didn't find what I expected for it so I kept myself away from the anime, though I saw the slightly different ending.

くものむこう、やくそくのばしょ。 My translation would be "Opposite the Clouds, (our) Promised Place. I have no idea where they got "Early Days" from, but whatever.

Anyways, like I said before in my rankings, the best animation ever. DEFINITELY check it out, you will not be disappointed.

Now THAT is trippy artwork. Great show too.

EDIT - Lulz, I screwed up the bold part.

"5 Centimeters Per Second" and "The Place Promised in Our Early Days" has the best artwork I've ever seen, by far. "Last Exile" is also pretty amazing.
YuZhan - lvl 4x pure STR blade/cold/force/lightning (semi-retired)
Ayumi777 * Oppenheimer - lvl 3x pure INT /lightning/cold/fire (started 11/06/08)

Has anyone seen "Voices of a Distant Star"? It was released before "Place Promised". I have it on my hdd but haven't seen it. Is it any good? I'd watch it for the visuals alone but does it have the same sad atmosphere as his other two movies?

No, it's really good. Trust me, the plot is REALLY good, not complicated but a heartwarming one. Watch it, though the relevancy of it to this thread is minuscule, and you'll agree when you see the animation... style...

I know what you mean...

Dunno, lots of people on my more Anime centered board say it's epic, but I for some reason have no interest in it...

It was awesome hey? I know! ^ ^

Never gonna watch the Anime. The manga was just too good and I don't wanna ever ruin the experience ^ ^

It's pretty good, the english dub isn't that great though, leaves out some of the funniest engrish jokes and ha a slightly different ending.

some of the arcs have pretty dark endings.

heres screens with minor spoilers inside.
Spoiler!

for some reason the screens came out with the aspect ratio odd.

I downloaded the manga once when I saw it popped up in TT, haven't read it though. I find it annoying to read mangas like that when you have to scroll to zoom and shit. The manga is still on going right? And did you say loli maid

15.4" screen, had to zoom and scroll when I read Eyeshield 21. :(

Hahaha, Seppuku. Some guy was gonna do it in Rental Magica, luckily he didn't because I can't really stand gory stuff. :)
