hera wasnt the godess of the seasons. That was Persephone, the daughter of Demeter. she got kidnapped by Hades (he lives in the underworld)when she was picking flowers. Demeter negotiated with Hades so she could have her daughter back for 1 part of the year. In this part of the year Persephone left the underworld to live with her mother Demeter. This was the part of the year when the flowers grew (aka spring). When she left to live with Hades again the flowers died etc and it became winter.
